Our first âStudent Spotlightâ is dedicated to MarĂa-SimonĂ© Sarmiento, class of 2023. Recently, MarĂa-SimonĂ© represented the Suffolk University English Department at the 2021 Greater Boston Intercollegiate Undergraduate Poetry Festival! To see a video of MarĂa-SimonĂ© performing in this festival, check out this link: https://youtu.be/MaGpGLEy6DM
MarĂa-SimonĂ© had this to say about her experience in the festival: âI felt so honored and blessed for the opportunity and it was very inspiring to hear the familiar use of Spanish in some of my peerâs and the guest speakerâs pieces. I think when it comes to writing, I always try to see where Spanish will organically come out and in general what the root of my poem might be.â
Her favorite English class at Suffolk so far has been the Poetry Workshop with Professor JosĂ© Angel Araguz. MarĂa-SimonĂ© says âworking with [Professor Araguz] to honorize that class last semester and gaining feedback from my peers allowed me to continue to find my voice in my poetry and creative writing in general. I owe a lot to Professor Araguz in guiding me and being a great teacher.â
đ Please join us in congratulating MarĂa-SimonĂ© on her accomplishment! đ
HUGE congrats to our honors thesis writers on their incredible presentations today!
