Some recent art I’ve done!

Very excited to finally be able to tell y’all that my second studio album ‘Won’t It Be Grand’ is coming out Friday, October 13th! I definitely can’t say everything I want to say about it in this post but I’ll do my best to hit the important talking points without being too long winded. For one thing, this will be the first time ever a record with my name on it will include a few songs I didn’t have any part in writing. I was lucky enough to be able to record three songs written by a few of my dearest friends and personal heroes which was a privilege I did not take lightly in the recording process, and wouldn’t ya know it those songs turned out to me some of my favorite tracks on the whole dang album. This whole thing was recorded in a series of living rooms, bedrooms, and spare rooms all around town over the course of 3-4 months last winter. Everyone who played a part on the album is a person I consider one of my greatest friends as well as one of the best in the world at what they do musically. I had a very specific vision for how I wanted this album to sound before we got started and these folks absolutely nailed it as we put it all together one piece at a time. I had no idea when we started out that we would surpass any expectations I had for this record and I’m forever indebted to the musicians who were a part of it. Can’t wait for y’all to hear this in a couple weeks!

More art I’ve done lately!

In two days I’m releasing another single, it’s a song called “Cried Like The Rain” and the fact I had the opportunity to record and release this song is an absolute dream come true. This song was written by the one and only Mr. Ray Sisk, some of you know that Ray has been a friend and a mentor to me ever since I moved to a Nashville a little over six years ago. He’s also one of the best damn songwriters I’ve ever heard. I’ve always considered myself lucky just to know and get to learn about how to craft a song from listening to Ray play at
so when I came to him at the start of making this album to ask him if he would be okay with me recording this one for the record, it was a feeling of pure joy when he said “That’d be just fine”. There’s no feeling in the world like knowing you’ve earned the respect of the people you idolize, and part of me still doesn’t believe it’s real. Coming this Wednesday, I can’t wait for y’all to hear this one!

We are one week away from the first single off the new album and I absolutely can’t wait for y’all to hear it! I felt something special with this song almost as soon as I finished writing it and that’s not the kind of thing that happens every time you write a tune. Basically, it’s about feeling like you’re always on the run. Never truly being able to settle in or relax because you feel like you don’t quite have a place anywhere, but never doubting that you’ll find it one day. As my dear friend and cowboy poet aficionado Jim Martin says, “I ain’t there yet, but I’m gettin’ there”
