We fight for rights, equity, and representation in both the workplace and our communities!
Local 264 Boston is a labor union representing Machinists in and around the Boston area. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) and Local 264 have been fighting for workers and their families for over 120 years. The IAMAW represents workers in every industry, Local 264 is a union where the members ARE the union.
At last Thursday’s Union Meeting we had a great guest speaker. A 31 year IAM member who held MANY positions with us, James (Jimmy) Mastandrea. Below is a copy of his speech which we should all read and understand. I’ll let him say it though.
I’m here tonight because I feel it my responsibility as a retired officer of this great local to speak up. First and foremost, I love this local it’s members and it’s leadership and what it’s done for my life. We’ve been through many battles together and we have always come together to win.
So we now have a presidential election in less than two weeks that I will address, as all the others we have fought in over years. We must remember that all elections have consequences and this particular one has the most to date. If we look at the candidates, I believe the choice as a working American could not be more clear, not by what could be, but by what HAS happened before. For the sake of sticking to labor, I will throw out some alarming social history that if it is repeated, could decisively hurt all working Americans.
Let’s take a look at just a few of Trump‘s anti-worker legislation and policies he put forth when he was president from 2016 to 2020. All of my points made here can, and should, be fact checked. Trust me I already have because most of this Crap needed to be because I just couldn’t believe some of it myself.
1, Trump broke his promises to the IAM resulting in 48 IAM shops closing.
2, Trump encourage freeloaders and made it more difficult to enforce CBA
3, In 2016, Trump said he’d stand with all workers but he never has.
4, He stacked the Supreme Court with judges that want to roll back your right as an American worker.
5, Trump‘s policies have restricted union reps ability to advocate for workers.
6, He took away protections for rank and file workers.
7, He opposed any increase to minimum wage.
8, He derailed the department of labor’s rule regarding overtime.
9, He undermined the fiduciary rule, which is potentially costing American workers up to one quarter of their retirement savings. The fiduciary rule is a regulation under penning fiduciary duty or the legal requirement for a financial advisor to work in customer’s best interest issued by the US Department of labor. The fiduciary rule is meant to save ordinary Americans billions of dollars by regulating the types of actions fiduciary can perform.
10, He oversaw a rise in outsourcing.
11, He threatened the future of Social Security, chipping away at working Americans retirement through $26 billion in proposed funding cuts.
12, He promised to bring back American manufacturing by investing 1 trillion to rebuild US infrastructure, but in four years never advanced any infrastructure legislation.
13, He jammed through massive tax giveaway for the rich, while he encouraged corporations to outsource their jobs.
14, He proposed a 78% cut to the International Labor Affairs Bureau, the federal agency taxed with promoting a fair global playing field for workers.
15, Trump proposed $400 million in budget cuts that would slash the trade adjustment assistant program for those workers who lose their jobs through imports.
16, He pushed a 40% cut in job training and cut to OSHA funding.
17, He shut down our government for 35 days, forcing 800,000 federal workers and more than 1 million contract workers to go without pay.
These are just a few examples, there are many more, too many more. We are American workers. We are union. We don’t look to, or ever want to put companies out of business. We are always fair and reasonable. I’ve said it many times we don’t set the prices of homes, food, cars, health insurance, we just want to be able to afford them so let’s be real here. As working Americans we must protect our families and our livelihood. You must take a hard look beyond today, to the future. What kind of a future, for workers, for your family, do you want to help build?
Vote for your job!

This is HUGE: Boston Globe Opinion editorial board has endorsed the Yes on 3! campaign 🙌 We're working hard for the option to join a union—paving the way for a historic path towards a better, fairer rideshare industry for all.
As the Globe said: "This fall, Massachusetts voters have a chance to balance the scales by approving Question 3, giving Uber and Lyft drivers the chance to form a first-of-its-kind union—and setting an important precedent for the rest of the country."
Let’s make history together!

Happy Halloween 🎃
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Brother Peyton, our brothers and sisters at S6 and all those affected by the tragedy in Lewiston.
Peyton Brewer-Ross will be remembered for who he was, a kind upstanding member of our community.
He was a graduate apprentice Pipefitter who worked hard and cared deeply for the people around him. His compassion for others caused him to join the Local S6 Education Committee where he did all he could to go above and beyond to support his fellow workers. His humor and good nature made him an excellent addition to our family of representatives and committee members.
His love of co****le, wrestling, and comic book heroes made him a colorful character to be around. He could often be heard quoting Macho Man Randy Savage, one of his favorite wrestlers.
All those who have been caught up in this tragedy have been left with a painful void. Our hearts and thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted, especially Peyton’s partner and young daughter.
We will grieve his tragic passing and mourn with all who knew him, but we will remember him for his kindness, compassion, and strong character.
Rest in peace Brother Peyton.
