Last August, one of our own Detention Center staff members suffered the unimaginable loss of her 5-year-old daughter Maria. In her mother’s words, Maria was a firecracker that loved all people and loved the outdoors. She loved telling people her mom went to jail all the time leaving her mom to explain what Maria meant. She found a friend in anyone and routinely spoke her mind and opinions of people. Maria had no qualms about telling you that you were being rude, and kindness is the way to go. She was an avid dirt biker; Maria got her first bike at 3 and rode for two years. Summer of 2023 she couldn’t be kept off her bike, dirt bike or pedal. A light even had to be installed on her bike to ride after dark.

In honor of Maria’s memory, the playground at 608 Jackrabbit Lane in Belgrade is being rebuilt. She played at this park every day and would have loved to see it rebuilt with improved equipment. There will be a block party to raise the funds needed for the remodel. It is a family friendly event with music, food, kid activities and a silent auction. We would love to see everyone there!

Have you heard of grounding (also called Earthing) before?
It’s simply the method of touching the Earth or a body of water with your body. It seems simple but it really can be crazy how long some of us have gone without touching barefoot to the ground.

You can get grounded by walking barefoot in the sand, or grass, getting your hands into dirt (such as with gardening), down upon the grass, or getting into a body of water such as a lake or the ocean. Simply sitting on rocks, hugging a tree (yes for real) , or swimming can ground your entire body.

Earthing or grounding is the discovery that bodily contact with the Earth’s natural electric charge stabilizes the body’s physiology at the deepest levels.

Benefits of grounding -
🌊-— Reduces inflammation, pain, and stress; improves blood flow, balances cortisol , shift the autonomic nervous system from sympathetic toward parasympathetic activation, increase heart rate variability, speed wound healing,improves sleep, and vitality.

So take this as your Thursday evening advice to get your shoes and socks off and go stand in the grass or dirt! You will thank me tomorrow. It’s best to do for 30 mins to an hour.

There’s so many things that go through your mind as a parent at this moment…It’s already over? It’s finally over! How can it be over? Did I do enough? Did I do too much? Etc.

All I can say is that raising children while building a business is not easy. 😅 But having a daughter like Ava definitely makes it so much better. I never had to worry about her. She is strong and independent, smart and talented and she showed me the way half the time.

When you are a female entrepreneur you miss out on a lot of little things. But you make way for a lot of things that wouldn’t have been possible without you taking that road! And a long the wag you find the absolute best people that become part of your family and take your kids into their hearts too. As a community we did a hell of a job raising these kids! I’m appreciative for my circle that raised me up when I needed it. 🙏🏻💙 I’m especially thankful to my wonderful husband, My Aunt Sue, my sister, Teddy and my friends and my staff !! Thank you Bozeman and beyond , I’m so grateful ! Congratulations my beautiful and sweet Ava Sue, I know you will blaze a trail wherever you go, and I can’t wait to see where it leads. Parents please talk to your kids about being kind. I know what happens during school and it’s part of growing up but it’s still heartbreaking to know that kids are cruel and saying mean things at school. I know the parents of the name calling kids, and I know they are good people and good parents. And I’m sure my kids have been unkind as well. So just a reminder to talk to your kids about bullying, and calling names, and making fun of other students. I talk to my girls about it weekly, and I have their whole lives, and I’ve also talked to them about how to handle the teasing etc . But it just is sad. There is so much s**t going on in our world, and so many horrible things daily that our children have to witness. Can we all just remind our kids when they go out the door to be kind to someone, make someone’s day, include someone- EVERY SINGLE DAY. Because life is already hard enough, without the extra hate, it’s avoidable and it’s disheartening to know it’s happening to my child, and other children too.

Happy birthday to Ava!! I can’t believe I have an 18 year old today. Here’s a snippet of some oldies, all the way up to most recent. She’s always been a strong, beautiful, kind, adventurous and loving girl. I love that she’s grown up with the spa & salon, and now she works there.
