Adult Program: A Ceremony of Carols

The Legacy Chorale kicks off its 23rd season with Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols along with other seasonal selections this November in Nisswa, Deerwood, and Brainerd.

Youth Program: Be the Light

The Legacy Youth Chorale is excited to launch its 3rd season, featuring numerous collaborations with partners around the lakes area and beyond! The fall program theme centers on light as a means to convey feelings of warmth, nostalgia, and joy. You will hear Youth Chorale favorites, audience sing-alongs, and seasonal works such as ‘Christmas Canon’ and selections from Home Alone.

October 27 - A Choral Community, Little Falls High School

St. Cloud-based Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota has invited our Concert Choir singers to participate in a combined concert in Little Falls, featuring YCCM’s Cantati, Con Brio, and Cantible Singers as well as the Little Falls Community High School Concert Choir.

November 9 - Youth Choral Festival, Brainerd High School

Legacy Youth Chorale will host its second annual Festival Choir Day, inviting singers from around the lakes area to join us for a day of music-making & fellowship, culminating in a public concert at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts.

November 10 - Concert with the Legacy Chorale, Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts

The Legacy Youth Chorale & Legacy Chorale will join forces to perform a combined concert - 120+ local singers carrying out our mission together!

Heartland Symphony Orchestra Collaboration - December 7 & 8

Legacy Youth Chorale will be part of HSO’s winter series, joining the orchestra for several selections and leading the traditional holiday sing-along at the end of the program. Concert dates are:

We still have a few openings in each choir for singers entering grades 3-9 this fall!

Members of our adult choir, singers from the Brainerd High School A Ca****la Choir, and the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers will join forces with the LAMF Orchestra for this weekend's concert.

Todd Price, Minnesota Boychoir Accompanist

Todd Price has been at home behind a piano for over forty years, twenty-five of them here in Minneapolis. He has been with the Minnesota Boychoir since 1998, working as a composer, accompanist and arranger. In addition to his work with the Boychoir, he has accompanied local/global reigning pageant queen of comedy Miss Richfield 1981 for fourteen years, and has played for adult ballet classes at Zenon Dance Company for the last nine years. He has been musical director for MinnnRoast, MinnPost’s annual gala fundraiser, for the last three years, and for the last year has been a member of Prosody, the songwriting collaboration headed by Denise Prosek of Theater Latte Da. He is in demand as an accompanist for ACDA honors choirs and he still can be heard playing at ComedySportz Twin Cities every once in awhile.

Mark Johnson, Minnesota Boychoir Executive & Artistic Director

Mark Johnson began his work with the choir in 1991 as the accompanist. He was hired as the Music Director in 1993. Mr. Johnson holds a degree in music education from St. Olaf College, and he taught junior high choral music for six years before becoming full-time director for the Boychoir. From 1995 to 2007, he was a member of the staff at Albemarle, a summer music camp program of the American Boychoir School in Princeton, New Jersey.

Mr. Johnson’s reputation in choral work, especially with children’s groups, has led to many invitations to work as a clinician and accompanist for honors choirs and festivals in Louisiana, Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota, New York, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Recently, he conducted the Minnesota ACDA 7th grade Boys Honor Choir and the Young Men’s track at the World Voices Australia Festival in Sydney. Mark is active in Minnesota’s chapters of ACDA and MMEA, and currently serves as the Repertoire and Standards Chair for Boychoirs at the state and regional level.

Koreann Martin, Legacy Youth Chorale Accompanist

Koreann Martin is an alumnus of Brainerd High School who obtained her Professional Music degree from The School for Music Vocations in Creston, IA. For a decade, she taught music privately in the Twin Cities area and served as Youth Choir Director at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Shoreview, MN. She now teaches virtual lessons from home and is the collaborative pianist for the BHS Music Department, Contemporary Worship Leader for Lord of Life Lutheran Church, and a frequent vocal music director for the CLC Performing Arts Center. Koreann is ecstatic to be working with the youth choirs as one of her biggest passions in life is providing and inspiring the younger generation to find enjoyment and enlightenment in all things musical.

Kennedy Niska, Managing Director & Legacy Youth Chorale Founding Director

Kennedy oversees daily operations of the Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota and directs the Youth Chorale program. He also works as the Music Ministry Coordinator at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter and teaches piano, voice, and saxophone in his studio in the Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd. Kennedy is involved in the region’s theatre community, having recently music directed ‘Sweet Charity’ and ‘Oliver!’ with Stage North Theatre Company. Kennedy holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Concordia College in Moorhead and is an active member of the National Association for Music Education, Minnesota Music Educators Association, and American Choral Directors Association.

Regarding this weekend’s concert, Kennedy says: “We are very excited to share the stage with Minnesota Boychoir in Brainerd on May 4th. They perform exceptionally well and will be an inspiration to all of our singers and the audience.”

The Minnesota Boychoir, now in its 62nd season, is the oldest continually operating boys choir in the Twin Cities. The choir has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, the Prague Philharmonic, and a long list of local and national performers. The Boychoir has traveled to five continents with recent tours that included performances at Sydney’s Opera House, Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican and Montserrat Abbey in Barcelona. The Minnesota Boychoir trains young men to be outstanding musicians and strives to help them develop a sense of poise and self-confidence through education and performance.

The Legacy Youth Chorale is a new program serving youth and families in central Minnesota. In just two seasons, Youth Chorale has more than doubled its initial size, added a second choir, hosted a community festival choir day, and performed at several venues around the Brainerd lakes area. Members represent 7 area school districts and 15+ local communities.
