This morning, Mayor Robert Sullivan joined Interim Superintendent of Brockton Public Schools Dr. Priya Tahiliani at Brockton High School to welcome the teachers back for the 2024-25 school year at the annual Convocation. Also in attendance were School Committee Vice Chair Tony Rodrigues and School Committee Members Ana Oliver, Joyce Asack, and Claudio Gomes. The City extends its heartfelt thanks to all of our dedicated teachers, staff, and administration for their hard work and commitment to our students. Here’s to a fantastic academic school year!

Mayor Robert Sullivan and the City of Brockton honor America’s workers.

Last evening at Campanelli Stadium, Mayor Robert Sullivan had the incredible honor to present legendary and pioneering punk rock band NOFX with a Mayoral Proclamation.

In addition, the Mayor also presented a Proclamation to Boston-area superstars the Dropkick Murphys, who also appeared in the festival, for their exceptional contributions to the music industry.

The City of Brockton is deeply grateful to NOFX for choosing to celebrate their storied career with a final, unforgettable performance in the “City of Champions”. We thank all of the fans who traveled from around the state and the country to attend this historic event.

Lastly, the City wishes to thank the concert promoters, musical performers, NE Knockouts/Brockton Rox ownership, Brockton Police Department, Brockton Fire Department, Brockton Emergency Management Agency, Brockton Traffic Commission, Board of Health, License Commission, and all elected officials for the support and collaborative efforts to make this event such a success.

This day is dedicated to raising awareness and eliminating the stigma associated with substance use, while acknowledging the deep grief experienced by families and communities.

We have just been notified by the Dept. of Public Health that specimens collected from mosquitos within the City of Brockton have tested positive for the WNV (West Nile Virus).
The following precautions should be heeded:
Rid your outdoor living space of standing pools of water.
Avoid exposure to the evening hours (dusk to dawn).
Use insect repellent recommended by the CDC and DPH.
Wear long sleeved clothing/long pants.
Please be careful and seek medical treatment if necessary .

Today, Mayor Robert Sullivan’s Director of Constituent Services and Community Engagement/Outreach John Messia welcomed Mr. Roberto Luciani, the Mayor of Ripa Teatina, Italy, the ancestral home of Brockton’s beloved Rocky Marciano. Acting as tour guide for the group was former Brockton City Councilor Todd Petti who is conversant in the Italian language. After the group’s stop at City Hall, they traveled to Marciano Stadium to view the Rocky statue. To this group, we say “grazie mille” for visiting us in Brockton!

Today, Mayor Robert Sullivan and PR/Communications Associate Suzanne McCormack attended and supported the 6th Annual Brockton Youth Family Fun Day (BYFFD) at East Middle School. The annual youth event featured basketball games, free haircuts, games, food, and a DJ. A special thank you to Mr. Chenet Sam and Block Security for organizing this special annual community festival. In addition, thank you to all of the vendors, local businesses, and organizations for supporting and participating. Also in attendance were the Plymouth County District Attorney Chief Legal Counsel of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Ms. Minhtram Tran and School Committee Member Timothy Sullivan. We are truly grateful for yet another exceptional day in our City of Brockton!

Yesterday, Mayor Robert Sullivan’s Director of Constituent Services and Community Engagement/Outreach John Messia attended the end of summer celebration sponsored by the Y Comprehensive Counseling and Project AMP. The teen-focused event featured resource tables, delicious food, games, and a backpack give-away. We thank the organizers for sponsoring this wonderful event for our city’s youth.

This afternoon, Mayor Robert Sullivan, Social Services Director Jazmine Bradsher, Director of Constituent Services and Community Engagement/Outreach John Messia, and Community Liaison Joseph Francois, attended the Stairway to Recovery overdose awareness event at their headquarters at 90 Main Street. The event featured music, games, food, resource tables, and guest speakers and was meant to acknowledge the grief of family and friends at the passing of a loved one from an overdose. We are grateful to Stairway to Recovery for the support you show to our most vulnerable citizens. Thank you for hosting this wonderful community event.

Today, Mayor Robert Sullivan, city staff, and community members gathered to raise the Ukrainian flag in celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day. The flag raising ceremonies are a tribute to the vibrant diversity that defines Brockton. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our Ukrainian residents and business owners for enriching our community with their traditions, cuisine, and unique culture. Your contributions help make Brockton the true "City of Champions."

Also in attendance were Mr. Jimmy Valentin for Massachusetts State Senator Michael Brady, School Committee Member Timothy Sullivan, and Brockton City Clerk Timothy Cruise. Thank you to all who attended this wonderful community event.
