Our Story
Brockton Interfaith Community (BIC) is a broad-based power organization created in 1990 by area clergy and lay leaders driven into action by the troubles facing the city of Brockton, Massachusetts.
BIC has since expanded, and grown into a powerful regional organization, working within thirteen congregations in Brockton, as well as within Family & Community Resources and Sharon Interfaith Action, for peace and justice for all people through community organizing. It is our goal to improve the lives of those in Brockton through building the leadership capacity of ordinary citizens. Through the steadfast belief that the basic principles of our various faiths unite us rather than divide us, we empower our leaders to work for systemic change through envisioning a Brockton where all can thrive, and identifying who we can unite with to do the work it takes to bring our city closer to that vision.
BIC is governed by a Board of Directors, and is staffed by an Executive Director, as well as an Internal Organizer, and a part-time Community Organizer. With the board’s leadership and with training from the BIC organizers, congregations build leadership teams to do outreach within their congregations, neighborhoods, and community organizations through hundreds of one to one conversations in order to determine self-interests, concerns, and passions of those around us.
A better Brockton begins with each of us building relationships, sharing common concerns, holding ourselves and our public officials accountable and organizing for change. If you feel called, compelled, motivated, or moved to do something in response to the world as it is today, we invite you to join us in creating beloved community together.
