Brooklyn Cat Cafe

Brooklyn’s first and only cat cafe is open! Our nonprofit cat cafe is home to our adoptable rescue ca

At Brooklyn Cat Cafe, we are proud to be one of the earliest cat cafes in the US, and the first to launch in New York City’s most populous borough. We’re the only cafe in the city run by a non-profit animal rescue organization. Our mission is to save our city’s cats, and we advance it by offering a hip and inviting destination where cat lovers of all ages can interact with adoptable animals – and one another – while learning about pet rescue and care together too.

Happy Purride from the Brooklyn Cat Cafe!🌈 Our cats are bursting with pride all year long, and they love any chance to flaunt it! June is right in the middle of kitten season, the time of year when we see the highest rate of young kittens being born all over NYC. Shelters all over the city are packed to the brim with little fluff balls! The proceeds from these bags go towards filling those little bellies and making sure they get the medical care they need to grow big and strong. This fundraiser ends on June 14- so grab your merch now before it’s gone for good!

All summer we will be releasing limited edition merch that is available to purchase online or in limited stock at our location at 76 Montague street. Purchase online at https://www.customink.com/fundraising/purride?utm_campaign=desktop-post-launch-v3&utm_content=purride&utm_medium=social&utm_source=copy-link!

Car Chester is an affectionate cat who somehow found herself in an industrial part of Brooklyn. She was so shy and timid on the street and took so long to approach the trap for food, that we assumed she was feral. Well, we were wrong.

Car’s eyes light up in anticipation of attention or pets. While we think she is pretty perfect, we know with a little love and confidence building, her personality will shine.

Can you tell that the cats in our holding space are grateful for enjoying AC instead of suffering in this heat wave? Now that you’re back from summer travels, consider fostering a friend and help us open more cool spots for cats in need. You may not have heard, but opening your heart (and home) to a homeless animal is scientifically proven to lower the temperature by 2-3 degrees.*

By popular demand, Feany’s Meow Eras Tour shirt is now available online! www.catcafebk.com/meow-era

From humble beginnings to becoming the star of his own Meow Eras Tour, Mr. Feany’s journey led him to find his forever family at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe. Mr. Feany's unique personality required a custom setup to help him feel comfortable and dance like he was made of starlight 🌟. Our new second-floor will offer that opportunity to other cats and your support will help us build a welcoming space for other Mr. Feany's to shine. As Feany so wisely said in one of his songs, “You have to believe in love stories and purrince charming and that eventually, you'll find your own happily ever after.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. You’re Fearless, Mr. Feany.

Tiny chance that Melman didn’t get the memo…

ADOPTION STATUS: Ready to rumble with his BFF Lino

Photos from Brooklyn Cat Cafe's post 05/26/2023

Howl is the kind of guy you can't help but love. His lean frame contrasts endearingly with his big round cheeks, making him look like an animated character rather than a real cat. Luckily, Howl isn't shy about his round face; he loves to be pet on his head, cheeks, and chin, and will chat with you about your day for as long as you'd like. Howl is happy to go to a home as a single, with another cat from the cafe, or to a home that already has some animal friends waiting for him.

ADOPTION STATUS: Single and ready to mingle (and sing) 🎤 Meet this fellow and his friends at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe this weekend!

Guess what — we’re expanding! 🎉😻🪜We have an incredible opportunity to provide even more resources to NYC cats and the people who help them. Thanks to a generous grant from New York State, we have the opportunity to take over the second floor of the Brooklyn Cat Cafe — creating Brooklyn’s first Kitten Room, Feline Leukemia Room and Catio! Can you tell how excited the cats are?

We have until the end of August to match the grant and secure our funding. We invite you to join us in reaching this goal of $165,000 (yikes!) by making a donation today. Together we can reach our match goal and make a historic impact for NYC’s most vulnerable cats. Link in bio or visit www.catcafebk.com/donate

Is there anyone more handsome in Brooklyn (or possibly the world) than Bulgogi? Trick question! This special guy met his forever family this weekend and we are so excited for him — although we will miss the hugs.

Funny story — on his first day in the cafe, he climbed up on one of the rafters and couldn’t figure out how to get down so we had to pull out a ladder 🪜Wishing him a lifetime of happiness, bow ties and staying low to the ground.

Weekend roundup: Timon (finally) got adopted (and derped on his way out), Lorax got a festive new collar (and hasn’t yet gotten it off), Cuttlefish stuck his tongue out at us and Mabel rolled his eyes, then Mabel posed for a picture (with Cuttlefish’s girl, but we’re not saying anything), Giblet also posed for a photo (and for once not in the sink), Flonkerton flopped (multiple times) and then Jackalope tried to flop and failed (but we still love him). Any questions?

Our Story

Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC) was founded by a group of animal rescuers in 2007 with a focus on improving the welfare of abandoned animals in Brooklyn. The organization began working with individual animal rescuers to provide low cost veterinary services, adoption listing and screening services.

Finding foster homes for rescued cats and those accepted from city shelters became the organization’s top priority — but it was a major struggle without a central facility where rescuers, foster families and potential adoptees could meet together. The organization launched The Brooklyn Cat Cafe to address this need.

The cafe opened in May 2016 at a storefront location in historic Brooklyn Heights.

Brooklyn Cat Cafe is 100% volunteer-run, managed by the Director of BBAWC who oversees the business affairs, cat care regimen, and daily operations at the cafe. A team of volunteers serves at the cafe during open hours and prepares and cleans after hours. A supervisor certified in aspects of cat care is on site during all open hours.
