Try my best Anxiety Tool-- FINGER TRACING to help calm the body and mind😊. Right now it's hard to not let fears overwhelm us. It's okay to be afraid. But when the wave of anxiety begins to mount, remember that you have a tool! After doing a set or two of finger tracing (remember to breathe slowly & deeply into the bottom of your diaphragm), remind yourself that staying anxious does not help us emotionally or physically (stress negatively impacts our immunity). 👩🏼‍🏫
Take good care of yourselves and your community! Social distancing is smart both for your own safety and those around you.

I decided to become a psychologist after working with women from El Salvador while I was in college. We were trying to prevent post-partum depression in these women who had fled war and violence before immigrating to Washington, DC. Being a witness to these women's stories, watching their resilience, kindness, and bravery is what motivated me to do what I have been doing ever since... Advocating for any human who has been abused, mistreated, misunderstood.

Creative people inspiring a generation through architecture's influence on education! "When you put children into a quiet box, some of them get really nervous." What is The Change Triangle, Hilary Jacobs Hendel 06/07/2019

People labeling themselves or others as "too emotional" or "not emotional" is not only unscientific, it conveys judgmental messages about how emotions should or should not be expressed. Here is some accurate and helpful about human emotions from mental health consultant for , Hilary Jacobs Hendel.

All humans have 7 Core Emotions that prime us for action. "Core emotions are brilliant: if we get out of their way, their innate programming tells us what to do to live life adaptively. The core emotions are: sadness, fear, anger, joy, excitement, sexual excitement and disgust...Shame, anxiety and guilt, the inhibitory emotions, block core emotions." Listening to the information that core emotions provide can help "...carry you from a place of disconnection back to your true Self."

Best Probiotics for Mood: Enhancing the Gut-Brain Connection with Psychobiotics 04/25/2019

Taking PROBIOTICS (psychobiotics) for only 30 days may improve mood and immunity and REDUCE symptoms of STRESS, ANXIETY and DEPRESSION in people with and without clinical mood disorders (so basically everyone)! This makes sense being that scientists have determined we have a "SECOND BRAIN" in our gut comprised of over 100 million neurons that produces over 30 neurotransmitters (think serotonin which many antidepressants act on). Our "enteric nervous system" is constantly communicating with our actual brain, affecting our mood and behavior. This is why many people with anxiety suffer from "stomach problems" like irritable bowel syndrome. Look into working on your stomach/gut health to increase your mood and quality of life!

Best Probiotics for Mood: Enhancing the Gut-Brain Connection with Psychobiotics What are pychobiotics? They're mind-altering probiotics that researchers say can enhance the gut-brain connection, boosting mood, decreasing anxiety, and easing depression.

What Are Boundaries and Why You Need Them 04/20/2019

Boundary setting is an often mentioned concept, but do we actually know what healthy boundaries really are? Boundaries are..."Your ability to understand, communicate and make a stand for how you want to be treated in your relationships." Helping people to identify their needs and empowering them to honor them in a genuine way is the first step to creating more healthy relationships (both with yourself and others)!

What Are Boundaries and Why You Need Them One of the most misunderstood and important tools to develop healthy relationships is your ability to set boundaries. Brene Brown famously said: "The most generous people are the most boundaried." She's right because setting boundaries helps you to take more responsibility for your life and therefor...

The Negativity Bias: Why the Bad Stuff Sticks and How to Overcome It 02/02/2019

One of the most important and effective components of therapy is providing our patients with psychoeducation to enhance self-understanding. It's quite helpful to know that due to evolutionary factors all of our brains feature the "Negativity Bias," which influences us to focus more on threats and negativity than positive events and memories. While this cognitive bias kept our ancestors safe, it can cause us to feel hopeless, down, or filled with self-doubt. Therapy is a great way to learn how to identify how the negativity bias affects your life and find ways to give yourself a positivity reality check.

How Attachment Style Impacts Our Interest in S*x 01/24/2019

Súper interesante! People's "attachment styles" are not talked about much in pop psychology, but the type of emotional bond created in infancy by parents/primary caregivers lasts into adulthood and affects how people relate to romantic partners. New research is showing us how attachment styles might be related to sexual satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, and sexual desire (Based on a sexually diverse sample!) And if you want to get an idea of your attachment style, click on one or both of the online tests in the comments! Happy self-introspecting!
