School may be out but the learning hasn’t stopped! There is a great group of students and faculty at Yellowstone National Park. They spend time in the classroom and then out in the field! Follow their trip on Instagram .at.nichols.school.
Construction is underway on the Buyers Family Arena! Over the summer we work on many projects to enhance our campus. These improvements wouldn't be possible without the support of the Nichols community.

As we wrap up the school year, we're celebrating the many talents and achievements of our students and recognizing the exceptional efforts of our faculty. The Gannon Family Foundation Faculty Award honors a Nichols faculty member nominated by peers for outstanding contributions to student education. This year's recipient is Phil Coburn.
Last year's winner, Josh Ring, had this to say about Phil, 'Despite all you do to support your colleagues, the Nichols students are truly the focus of your work. You communicate your love of the discipline of physics in a classroom space that embraces teaching and learning as joint endeavors. A visitor to your classroom is more likely to find you kneeling next to a young 9th-grade student rather than delivering from the front of the room. One student described your style as 'gentle guidance,' asserting that you make solving even the hardest problems seem achievable. Your instruction is appropriately challenging and organized, yet never constraining. You encourage your students to explore, to question, and construct their own understanding of the discipline.'
Thank you to Mrs. Gannon for joining us and for your support of Nichols over the years!
Today, our 5th grade students showcased their year-end Science and Central Studies projects. These classroom endeavors, developed over recent weeks, truly highlight the creativity thriving in our 5th grade.
For Science, students created zoo biome presentations, focusing on zoologists, conservationists, botanists, or biome experts. Each group presented an educational poster to the audience.
In Central Studies, students delved into medieval times, exploring the Mayans, the African Empire, Ancient China, or the Black Death. They used diverse methods to teach their topics, and each student hosted a station where guests could engage in hands-on experiments.
Thank you to all the families that could join us today! Your continued support of Nichols is what makes this community so special!
Congratulations to Kayleigh Rizzo on being named Coach of the Year by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York! Your dedication and leadership inspire us all.
In her first year at Nichols, Coach Rizzo led the team to a perfect 12-0 season and an MMHSAA Double-A Championship. This year, she continued her outstanding success.
Thank you, Kayleigh, for your unwavering support of the Nichols community. We look forward to seeing the team's future achievements under your guidance!

Tad graduated from Williams College in 1979 and earned a graduate degree from Middlebury College. This morning, the Nichols community gathered together on the Quad to commemorate the ten lives lost during the shooting at Tops Market on May, 14, 2022. We hosted Tiffany Gaines and Julia Bottoms. Tiffany is the Curatorial and Digital Content Associate at Burchfield Penney Art Center and is also the first Black person to serve as an in-house curator at the Burchfield Penney Art Center. Julia is Buffalo-based artist with a number of murals in the region.
Tiffany’s collaborative work, Before and After Again is an exhibition of artwork, prose, and poetry by Buffalo-based artists and fellow cultural producers Julia Bottoms, and Jillian Hanesworth. Their works respond to the tragic slaying of ten Buffalo residents on May 14, 2022, at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, New York.
“These works were created out of dialogue with members of our community, including those families directly affected by the tragedy, in consideration of their deep humanity and resilience in the face of systemic racism and unspeakable violence.”
Thank you to Tiffany and Julia for your words this morning.
