URGENT! Missing Calico in Copper Canyon Subdivision
For Copper Canyon residents, please check your surroundings to see if a calico kitty may be in your outbuildings, garages or vehicles. They like to sneak in when your back is turned.

Our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to our sweet and strong little Chance, our brave tabby kitten who fought with all he had. Despite everyone’s best efforts and all the love surrounding him, his little body could no longer hold on, and he peacefully passed away in our arms at 2:50 a.m. on September 4th, 2024.
To all who loved and cared for Chance, we are deeply grateful. Your support, love, and care meant the world to him and to us. Thank you for being part of his journey.
Our sweet girl Little Bit is still hoping the perfect family will come along soon and bring her home 🩷
Poor Little Bit has been through a lot. Her owner, who was her best friend, passed away. After a heartbreak like that, she was brought to a shelter without knowing what was happening. She has really struggled here and takes some time to open up to new people. Once she feels comfortable around you, she lets her loving personality shine!
Little Bit deserves to be curled up on the couch in a warm cozy home, not spending her days in the shelter. Please help us find the perfect home for her!
Little Bit is a Shepherd mix, weighs 39 pounds, and was born on 7/6/2021. She is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm preventative.
Little Bit must be an indoor dog, meaning she sleeps in the home setting and doesn’t live outside. If you are interested in adopting Little Bit, please email [email protected]. If there are other dogs in your home, we require a meet and greet. Meet and greets can be scheduled via email at [email protected].
All current pets in your home must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Thank you!
**Urgent Plea to Texas Animal Shelters and Pet Owners: Test for Chagas Disease—The Silent Killer of Dogs**
We are heartbroken to share the story of Jax, one of our young, vibrant shelter dogs who was full of life and joy. Jax was looking forward to his second chance at finding a forever home when the unthinkable happened—he suddenly passed away in October 2022.
Jax showed no symptoms of illness. The day before, he was happy and energetic, just like any healthy 1.5-year-old German Shepherd mix would be. We were devastated and confused by his sudden death, so we decided to have a necropsy performed to understand what went wrong. The results were shocking: Jax was positive for Chagas disease.
Determined to protect the rest of our shelter dogs, we tested all of them for Chagas disease in November 2022. To our dismay, three more dogs tested positive.
Chagas disease is a silent killer, often showing no signs until it’s too late. It is a growing threat in Texas, and many dogs remain undiagnosed, leaving them at risk for sudden death.
We urge all Texas shelters and pet owners to take this disease seriously. Please, start testing and treating for Chagas disease now. Do not wait until it’s too late. We do not want you to experience the heartache of losing a beloved pet without warning, as we did with Jax.
Together, we can take action to save lives and ensure that our pets live healthy, happy lives. Please share this message and encourage testing in your community.
We are the only shelter in Texas, we believe, who is testing and treating for Chagas.
Please mark your calendars to contribute to Bulverde Area Humane Society during The Big Give on 18-19 Sep 2024 so that we can continue to test and treat for this expensive disease, Chagas.
SURGERY UPDATE!
Tux is out of surgery and all went well. He is going home with Rachel and Steve. Thank you everyone for the positive thoughts and love sent Tux's way.
TUX UPDATE!
Heartfelt Update on Tux, Our Tuxedo Kitten
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all our incredibly generous donors who have stepped up to support Tux, our precious tuxedo kitten, in his time of need. Thanks to your kindness and compassion, Tux now has a chance at a brighter future. Without your support, this darling baby wouldn’t have the opportunity to receive the surgery he desperately needs.
Tux is scheduled for his intensive procedure at Alamo Feline Clinic tomorrow. As we prepare for this crucial step in his journey to recovery, we kindly ask for your thoughts and prayers. Your support means the world to us, and we will keep you updated on Tux's progress as he moves forward on this path to healing.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in Tux and giving him a fighting chance.
JUDY THE CUTIE!
A bit of a live view of this precious girl.
We are packed to the brim with kittens of all ages and adult cats.
Please come in and meet your new friend very soon. The more kitties who are adopted out means another can be saved.
A Poem for Judy, Our Little Cutie
Meet Judy, our tabby girl so sweet,
With silver and cream, she's a dainty treat.
Though she's small, her spirit's grand,
A friend like her, you'll always have on hand.
She’s bright and cheerful, always chatty,
She'll follow you close, so happy and sprightly.
With a purr that could melt any heart,
Once you meet Judy, you'll never want to part.
Looking for a companion, a friend so true?
Judy’s the perfect kitty just for you.
You won't find a soul so loving and kind,
Come visit Judy, see what joy you’ll find.
So open your heart, let her come near,
This darling kitty will bring you cheer.
With Judy by your side, love’s never far,
She's your forever friend, your shining star.
Come in today and let her fill your heart,
With Judy in your life, a new chapter starts.
Update on Chance: Our Brave Little Fighter
We are thrilled to share a heartwarming update on our courageous little boy, Chance! Every day, he shows us just how strong and resilient he is. Despite his tough start, Chance is making remarkable progress. He can now stand and walk around in his enclosure, moving his casted leg right along with him. Watching him eat and drink on his own has been such a joy for all of us—he’s showing that he’s got the spirit of a true survivor.
While we did have a minor setback with a cold, our little fighter is on the mend. Thanks to the albuterol tub and antibiotics, he’s beating that cold and getting back on track.
Chance is heading in for a cast change and checkup this week, and we’re all eagerly awaiting his wound surgery scheduled for the 14th. We have every hope and belief that our sweet boy will pull through with flying colors.
We’re taking things one day at a time and handling each challenge as it comes, but with Chance’s incredible spirit and all the love and support surrounding him, we know he’s going to come out stronger than ever. Thank you all for your continued love and support for Chance!
September is National Happy Cat Month.
A Happy Meow-sage from Tater Tot!
Hello to all my furry friends adopted from the Bulverde Area Humane Society and everywhere! It’s your itty bitty ginger baby boy, Tater Tot, here to wish every kitty a very joyful National Happy Cat Month! I hope this month brings you lots of belly rubs, tasty treats, and cozy naps in the sun.
And to all the wonderful humans out there, if you want to make this little Tater Tot extra happy, please consider pre-adopting me! I’m just waiting to find my forever home so that when I grow a little bit more, I’ll have a special place to call my own. Sending purrs and head bumps to everyone! 🧡
With love and tiny paws,
Tater Tot
These 6 adorable puppies are available for pre adoption! While they each have their own unique qualities, they all absolutely love to be around people and play!
We currently have 2 boys and 4 girls. The top left and middle are the boys Jasper and Noah. The top right is girl Mya. The bottom row are the other girls Piper, Sydney, and Willow. All puppies are Pomeranian/Basenji mixes and were born on 6/8/2024. We predict the puppies will range between 15-25 pounds when full grown, due to the various sizes of the puppies in the litter. Their dad is 9 pounds and their mom is 30 pounds.
If you are interested in pre-adopting one of the puppies, please email the shelter at [email protected] and leave a contact phone number for us to reach you at. Please do not call the shelter number about the puppies, email is the best way to contact us. Before the puppies are officially adopted, they will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on all the required vaccinations, and taking preventive flea/tick/heartworm medicine. As with all our dogs, the puppies must be indoor dogs, meaning they sleep in the home setting and do not live outside.
Rebel had her final adoption today 🥰

The Great Kitten Adventure in the Shelter
Once upon a time, in a cozy little shelter, lived seven tiny kittens who were full of curiosity and wonder. They were named Greg, David, Onyx, Tater Tot, Felicity. Fiona and Faith. Each night, after the lights went out and the world grew quiet, the kittens whispered about the world outside their cozy cage.
One night, Felicity whispered, "Let's go on an adventure! I just know there are things we've never seen before." The other kittens agreed, their eyes wide with excitement. Quietly, they nudged their cage door open and slipped out, their tiny paws making almost no sound on the cold floor.
First Stop: The Kitchen: They tiptoed to the kitchen, where delicious scents filled the air. Tater Tot and Greg scampered over to a slightly open bag of treats. "Look, snacks!" he whispered, and the kittens each took a tiny nibble, their eyes widening at the yummy taste.
Through the Laundry Room: In the laundry room, David found a pile of fresh laundry. "This looks perfect for a tuxedo kitten like me," he purred. The kittens giggled and tumbled into the warm blankets, making a soft nest. Fiona and Onyx batted a lonely sock around, pretending it was a sneaky mouse.
Into the Middle Room: Feeling braver, they headed to the middle room, where they saw lots of toys and places to climb. Faith found a high perch and mewed, "This is the perfect place to see everything!" Felicity’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
Just as the sun began to peek over the horizon, the kittens slipped back into their cage, curling up as if they had been there all night. When the caretakers arrived, they found the kittens sleeping soundly, dreaming of their next adventure.

CHANCE!
Meet Chance, our little miracle kitten with the heart of a lion and the sweetness of a bunny. Despite everything he’s been through, Chance remains grateful for every bit of care he receives, even when it's painful.
Chance’s journey began when a kind senior couple found him on the road, unable to walk and in desperate need of help. They reached out to us, and together, we quickly formulated a plan. The couple brought Chance to Fur & Feather that evening, and thankfully, they took him in right away. Chance wants to send extra love to Jenny and Dr. Schiebe for providing him with immediate pain management, care, x-rays, a splint, and everything else he needed to make it through the night.
We waited to introduce our sweet little survivor until we were absolutely sure he would pull through his injuries. His spirit and determination have been nothing short of inspiring. With the expert care from our trusted partners at Bulverde Bexar Veterinary Clinic—especially Dr. Leslie, Dr. Elbel, and their compassionate staff—Chance continues to receive the love and medical attention he needs to recover.
It truly takes a village, and Chance has brought together an entire community of vets, vet techs, caretakers, and staff who are all rooting for him. Despite having three broken legs, severe infections, malnourishment, and dehydration—likely from a terrifying encounter with something with very big fangs—Chance’s spirit remains unbroken. He is a fighter through and through.
Chance is already trying to befriend all the other trailer kitties, and Damsel, who was just as sick when she arrived here, has taken on a special role as his guardian, checking on him at least once an hour.
Chance may have been through a lot, but his heart is full of love, and he’s ready to find a forever home that will cherish him as much as he cherishes every bit of life.
Please let us know if you would like to pre-adopt this wonderful little guy. We will care for him until his care is completed. He will require a surgery or two, lots of care and love. You will know he is yours when he is ready to go home.
Come visit during our open hours of Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 10 am -1pm,

This cutie is still looking for his forever home! 🩵🏡 Wyatt is the happiest dog you will ever meet! He has the most adorable wiggle butt and absolutely can’t contain his excitement every time someone enters his kennel. Wyatt is the perfect dog to take out on adventures, and he has done great at every event we bring him to! You can definitely see the Pointer in him; he will sometimes fixate on things in his surroundings and get in that Pointer stance. When out in play yards, he runs around with the most joyful hops!
You can’t help but smile when you’re around this cutie. Wyatt gets along great with other dogs and likes to show off his speed by outrunning all of them in our play yards! While Wyatt ADORES all people, he would do best in a family with older children and adults. Wyatt genuinely loves his life and deserves to share that love with the perfect family!
Wyatt is a Hound/Pointer mix, weighs 50 pounds, and was born on 5/13/2021. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm preventative.
Wyatt must be an indoor dog, meaning he sleeps in the home setting and does not live outside. If you are interested in adopting Wyatt, please email [email protected]. If there are other dogs in your home, we require a meet and greet. Meet and greets can schedule via email at [email protected].

We are shocked that our sweet boy Bronx is STILL looking for the perfect family to enjoy life with after being with us for 471 days! He is such a happy guy and we truly don’t understand how someone hasn’t scooped him up yet! Bronx has won over many staff members and volunteers at the shelter. He is extremely friendly and absolutely loves to play! You can’t help but smile when you’re around his fun energy 😄 He is a perfect medium size and would love to curl up on the couch with you after a day of play! Bronx is good with other dogs and would do well with a four legged companion. This cutie deserves to find the very best home!
Bronx is a Terrier mix, weighs 38 pounds, and was born on 5/16/2022. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

Everyone say hello to Nico! Many of you may recognize this cutie. After being at BAHS for over 600 days, he was adopted out last May. Unfortunately, Nico was brought back to our shelter due to absolutely no fault of his own. He was very loved in his previous home, but had to part ways with his owner because of unforeseeable living arrangements.
We are determined to help Nico find his forever home ASAP so that he doesn’t have to spend as much time in the shelter as he did previously. Our hearts break to see him back here sad and confused. Nico would make an excellent companion and will thrive in a home that is busy with a family ready to take him on plenty of adventures. He is high energy and will do best with an active family! He loves to play with toys, chase a ball around, and lean into you for affection once he’s done playing! Nico can be picky about the dogs he likes, but we have seen him do well with female dogs.
This fun loving boy deserves the very best home! We are hopeful that he will find his forever home soon!
Nico is a Shepherd mix, weighs 66 pounds, and was born on 3/16/2020. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

This stunning girl is Athena 😍 After being dumped at a gas station with nothing other than a message saying “Athena, has shots” handwritten on her collar, this poor girl is sad, nervous, and confused. She’s looking for the perfect family to show her the love she deserves 🩷 Understandably, Athena can be shy when she first meets new people, but we’ve seen her start to come out of her shell once she feels more comfortable and knows she can trust you. We’ve seen her confidence growing, and notice that she’s happy when running the fence line with other dogs. While she may be on the smaller side for a typical Husky, we know that she has a big personality just waiting for the right person to experience!
Athena is a Husky, weighs 38 pounds, and was born on 8/3/2021. Before adoption, she will be spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

This scruffy little guy is sure to win you over instantly 😍 Wolfie is extremely sweet and we can’t imagine him ever living a life where he wasn’t the center of someone’s world! Wolfie is all-around amazing- he gets along great with adults, kids, and other dogs. He loves so go for car rides and long walks. Wolfie deserves to be spending his days getting spoiled by his new family, not sitting in the shelter alone. Please help us find this sweet boy a home 🩵

Damien & Dragon: A Story of Survival
In a quiet neighborhood, two tiny kittens, Damien and Dragon, were born into a world of warmth and care. Their mother, a devoted feline, watched over them with love. However, their peaceful existence was shattered when a cruel neighbor trapped their mother, leaving the kittens alone, frightened, and vulnerable.
Little Damien, wise beyond his five weeks, knew they needed help. Hungry and desperate, he ventured out and bravely approached a kind neighbor. With a mew and a gentle rub against her legs, he captured her attention. Moved by his plea, the neighbor quickly scooped up Damien and then found Dragon, huddled and scared.
Determined to help, the neighbor took the kittens into her home, providing warmth, food, and safety. He reached out to our shelter, ensuring a secure future for Damien & Dragon. At the shelter, they are now thriving, growing stronger every day.
Damien and Dragon are ready for their forever homes in a very short time and can be pre-adopted now. Dont miss your chance to have these baby dolls as your own.
If you are interested in adopting these sweet survivors, please email [email protected], call 830-980-2247, or visit us during our regular hours on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm.
Big Give 2024: A Call to Action for Our Local Businesses
We are thrilled to announce the Big Give 2024, a 24-hour fundraising rally from 6 p.m. on September 18th to 6 p.m. on September 19th. This year, we are reaching out to our incredible local businesses to join us in supporting our community shelter. Our shelter is run almost entirely by dedicated volunteers, with the only paid positions being our cat and dog caretakers. Every other aspect of our operations depends on the selfless efforts of volunteers who work tirelessly to provide a safe haven for animals in need.
We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of local heroes like State Farm Insurance Agent Chris Gann. Chris has been a pillar of support for our shelter, donating monthly to ensure we have the necessary supplies and resources. His generosity means that we can allocate funds to other critical areas, like animal surgeries and shelter maintenance, instead of using them on supplies he donates. Chris’s commitment has made a profound impact on our ability to continue our mission, and we are so thankful for his continuous support.
This year, we hope to inspire more local businesses to follow Chris’s lead by becoming monthly donors. The funds raised during the Big Give 2024 will help cover essential costs, including shelter upkeep and medical care for our animals. By partnering with us, local businesses can make a lasting impact on our shelter and the lives of countless animals waiting for their forever homes.
Your support is vital to ensuring we can continue providing the highest level of care to every animal that comes through our doors. Every dollar raised during this event helps us maintain our shelter and provide the medical attention and love our animals need. We believe that with the support of our local business community, we can make the Big Give 2024 our most successful event yet.
Save the Date: Big Give 2024 - September 18th at 6 p.m. to September 19th at 6 p.m.
Please consider joining us in this meaningful effort to support our shelter and the animals we care for. With your help, we can continue to provide a safe, loving environment for each animal.

Our sweet girl Kiwi has been at BAHS for over 2 YEARS.. 💔 We desperately need help from our amazing community and followers. We’ve had some incredible adoptions in the past from a result of people SHARING our posts. Please share Kiwi’s post and spread the word! Kiwi is patiently waiting for the perfect family to come along and give her the love she deserves.
With her giant smile, adorably big ears, and loving personality, it’s hard to not fall in love with Kiwi! While she can be a little shy at first, Kiwi is very sweet and caring once she becomes comfortable around you. One of her favorite things to do is splash around in our pools- she loves the water! Kiwi is a very smart girl who is treat motivated and picks up on new skills easily. From what we have seen at the shelter, Kiwi needs to be the only pet in the home. She would thrive with a family who is ready to take her on plenty of adventures and give her all the love she deserves!

Our sweet boy Zane was adopted! 🎉
Thought I would share. This is a post from Facebook and not one of our cats, but reminded me of how many we have worked with, loved and found homes for.
Many of our cats and kittens come into the shelter looking a little ragged, but when all healthy and fed well their inner swan shows.
They are all beautiful inside and when healthy their inside match the outside!

Our Story
What Else We Do: We seek to place pets in forever homes where they will be part of the family. We spay or neuter every dog or cat in our shelter. Where possible, we treat them for parasites, injuries, and illnesses. We microchip them. We educate adopters about how to be responsible pet owners.
In addition to caring for animals needs, much of the construction, repairs and grounds maintenance is also a job for our volunteers, as well as performing all the tasks of running a shelter such as answering the phone and keeping records.
Volunteering at BAHS is a great character-building experience.
