Congratulations, Saida Pagán

Saida Pagán, a long-time member of the Toastmaster 4 Writers
club has produced a documentary featuring two fellow
Toastmasters 4 Writers, District 52 club members, David and
Dawn Jenkins.

Saida, who is also an award-winning broadcast and print
journalist was the producer, writer and researcher for “Main
Street: The History of Transportation in Los Angeles.”

The 30-minute documentary chronicles LA transportation from
the 1700s right up to the present time. It debuted on Channel 35
in May 2023.

“David and Dawn’s recollections of the transportation landscape
in Los Angeles during the 1960s and 70s added greatly to the
historical significance of the documentary by providing an
eyewitness account of a bygone era,” Saida said. “Their amazing
interviews provided detail, insight and context that
tremendously enhanced the quality of the documentary.”

Saida joined Toastmasters 4 Writers in 2018, after having been a
member of another Toastmasters club in the mid to late 1990s
and early 2000s. She credits the organization with supporting
her on her journey toward becoming a better writer and public
speaker.

“I always say, ‘I wish I had had this type of training earlier in my
career,’” Saida chuckled.

During her time with District 52, Saida has been busy–taking on
leadership roles with her club as Sergeant-at-Arms and VP of
Public Relations. She has also delivered dozens of speeches and
recently completed Presentation Mastery Level 5.

Outside of Toastmasters, Saida has served as reporter/producer
and host for the City of Los Angeles television station and has
moved forward with her career in freelance writing and
journalism.

Since 2020, Saida has received 11 nominations and has been
honored with 9 wins for her work in television and print. The
awards include 3 Los Angeles Press Club Southern California
Journalism Awards, 3 National Arts and Entertainment
Journalism Awards and 3 National Association of
Telecommunications Officers and Advisors Awards for her
reports and documentaries on government television.

Saida has tackled topics such as diversity in the entertainment
industry, Covid-19 loss of smell research and media training for
writers. In addition to “palabra,” the publication she regularly
contributes to, Saida’s articles have appeared in “Well + Good,”
an online health and wellness publication and in September
2023, a 3-page article on media training for authors was
published in “Writer’s Digest,” a venerable and beloved
magazine for writers of all genres.

This summer Saida Pagan debuted her long-awaited YouTube
show, “American Stories with Saida Pagan,” where she
interviews authors, documentarians, artists and other creatives
who have stories to tell about the American scene.

She is especially interested in highlighting the work of fellow
Toastmasters, and in one recent edition, Saida interviewed
Linda Folsom, a Toastmasters 4 Writers member whose first
novel, Away with Words, was recently published.
