A beautiful bridge is now in place on Section 4, thanks to Sam Brakeley of Hermit Woods Trailbuilders, LLC. This new bridge will help support the Velomont Trail and year-round use while making a tough stream crossing much more enjoyable for Catamount Trail skiers. A big thank you to Sam, our volunteers, and all those involved in supporting this CTA, Velomont, and Vermont Huts Association project.
We’re excited to announce that (MBA) has come on board as our newest CTA Chapter!
MBA was founded in 2023, and advocates for more safe, accessible, and sustainable human-powered winter recreation within the Mount Mansfield region. MBA aims to cultivate this with community-driven stewardship, fostering partnerships, creating equitable access to human-powered skiing, and supporting the education of uphill and backcountry travel.
Learn more about Mansfield Backcountry Alliance and our other CTA Chapters at catamounttrail.org. They’re a big part of what we do to protect, expand, and provide amazing Vermont backcountry skiing and riding to our community.
If you’ve ever skied in the Mansfield area, you know it has some amazing backcountry zones. To show your support for these beautiful places we get to ski, you can choose MBA (or your favorite zone) as an affiliate when renewing or becoming a CTA member!
The CTA and Patagonia have teamed up again to raise money for the Catamount Youth Programs – free learn-to-ski programs hosted in communities throughout Vermont. Our programming uses Nordic skiing to promote healthy lifestyles, increase engagement with nature, and offer access to outdoor activities in the winter.
Catamount Youth Programs are free for participants and served over 1,300 kids last season! While there are no costs for the kids, there are significant program costs. Please help us get more kids outside this winter by participating in the Patagonia Gear Giveaway!
Raffle tickets are: (1) for $10... (4) for $30... (10) for $60... (20) for $100

Big improvements are coming to Section 4 of the trail this fall! This past Saturday was a big day of transporting lumber across Somerset Reservoir by pontoon boat to a remote part of the Catamount Trail, with volunteers and staff from CTA, Velomont, and Vermont Huts Association lending a hand for a new bridge that will be built later this fall. This new bridge will help support the Velomont Trail and year-round use while dramatically improving a tough stream crossing for skiers. A few volunteers even enjoyed a beautiful paddle back across the Reservoir to end the workday!
