Did you know the Lemon Poppy Old Fashioned doughnut from was the inspiration to start Blackbird?! Our founder took a trip to Chicago 10+ years ago, tried their Lemon Poppy and was blown away—had no idea doughnuts could be so good. Rosie’s Place offers a safe haven for women and overnight shelter and other services to those in need.
One in 10 MA residents live in poverty. More than 15,000 people are homeless on any given day. And a stunning one in three adults are considered food insecure. The root causes of homelessness are systemic and also personal. For some women, it may be unemployment, the loss of savings during a time of illness or an unplanned pregnancy. She may be suffering from mental illness or substance use disorder. With little money and living in one of the most expensive housing markets in the country, our guests find the road back to stability can be long and difficult.
