In Student Views, Diana Ochoa-Chávez, a Harvard undergraduate studying philosophy and government, tells us about how, while she was doing a DRCLAS internship in Mexico with an agency supporting deported people, she took a hike up Tepoztlán that led her to reflect, “As a first-generation, low-income student and the daughter of Oaxacan immigrants, I carry the hopes and prayers of my indigenous Zapotec ancestors. I strive to honor and remember my roots in every task I strive to perfect. I bear a duty to my ancestors and community to honor and fulfill those prayers.”
