🚨🔔‼️Attention holiday shoppers:
Be cautious, as a new gift card scam is circulating. Exercise vigilance when purchasing gift cards, and consider opting for e-gift cards from reputable sources to minimize risks. This scam is widespread, so stay alert.

🔸Details:
Fraudsters don’t purchase the gift cards. They steal the cards and tamper with them, steal the code from the top and return the other half of the card back to the store in the original packaging. It looks like a normal gift card since you see original barcode through the window.
When shoppers go purchase the gift cards, money is loaded on to the actual gift card (fraudsters have the tampered gift card number saved already). Once shopper loads money onto the gift card the fraudster has access to the money, not the purchaser. When they gift it, the gift card funds are already emptied out by then. Always inspect gift cards before purchasing to avoid potential loss. Don’t let fraudsters spoil the joy of giving.

As we begin to enter winter weather please remember this important driving tip: The automatic headlight control in vehicles detects brightness outside the vehicle with an Illuminance sensor which activates when light picked up by the sensor drops below a certain level. This does not activate because of inclement weather such as snow ,rain or fog, so please use your headlights manually for safety while driving in these weather condition. In addition daytime running lights (DRL) on most new vehicles may activate white lights to the front but leave the taillights off which leads to many driving at night or in inclement weather feeling headlights are on without any rear lighting being present. If in doubt turn your headlights on!

Tomorrow(Tuesday, December 5, 2023) about noon will be the scheduled monthly City of Camdenton storm siren test. The storm sirens may sound more than once during this test.

The next monthly City of Camdenton storm siren test is scheduled for Tuesday, January 2nd , 2024 at noon (weather pending).

Reminder:
Storm sirens are an outdoor warning system designed only to alert those who are outside that something dangerous is approaching. For weather alerts indoors, every home and business should have a NOAA Weather Radio All-Hazards. NOAA Weather Radio is like a smoke detector for severe weather, and it can wake you up when a warning is issued for your area so you can take appropriate action.

At 11:43 both stations were alerted for a 2nd Alarm Commercial Structure Fire at Aria Beach Spa.

Engine 11 arrived on scene within 3 minutes and advised they had a small fire in a rubbish pile with the building partially involved. A 1 3/4” attack line was placed in service. The fire was quickly brought under control and all mutual aid units were cancelled.

Crews remained on scene approximately 30 minutes for overhaul and used ventilation fans to help clear the smoke from the building. The interior of the building remained unharmed from the fire however did receive significant smoke damage.

No civilian or firefighters were injured during the incident. The fire is under investigation by the Osage Beach Fire Marshall’s Office.

Cold water shock occurs when the body is suddenly immersed in cold water. Once the trunk of the body goes under, the blood vessels will constrict to conserve core body heat. This response, in turn, can cause a sudden increase in heart rate and blood pressure—in some cases resulting in cardiac arrest.
