Dr. .sharnellmyles shared a beautiful reminder of the importance of honoring Juneteenth. Dr. Myles , who has a doctorate in psychology, is our chief clinical officer.
---
"Slavery is by far the most heinous, brutal, and demoralizing assault against individuals. Not only did slavery change a continent, but it also changed generations of people and stripped them from their core a sense of their true culture and humanity. The history of Juneteenth encompasses decades of slavery, lynching, racial violence, and the notion that enslaved people were free. It wasn't until June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, that Maj. Gen. Gordan Granger informed Texas that ALL enslaved people were free.”
---
“As we celebrate Juneteenth as a step closer to Black Liberation, let us hold this day in remembrance of our ancestors who gave their lives in hopes of true freedom, a day where we can honor the lives, culture, and contributions of African Americans, a day where we stop and reflect on the work that is yet to be done and intentionally develop steps to build the future, and a day where we welcome our allies to continue standing side by side and taking responsibility to ensure equitable and sustainable change.”
---
“Let us remain vigilant and steadfast in our goal to create and sustain an inclusive, empowering, and equitable culture that honors the history of African Americans. Today, I encourage each of you to learn more about Juneteenth and take part in a local Juneteenth celebration!"

When it comes to racism and mental health, the psychological effects of racism on a teen’s emotional well-being can be troubling. During childhood and adolescence, core beliefs and personality traits form. Being exposed to racism during this developmental stage increases the risk of mental illness, racial trauma, and emotional issues that can persist well into adulthood.

To get a better insight into racism and mental health, including how teens are affected and the importance of treatment, we turned to Dr. Sharnell Myles, our chief clinical officer. Head here 👇 to read what she had to say.

One of our amazing LMFTs is Leslie Bazan. Leslie is bilingual (spanish) and has worked with children with developmental disabilities, monolingual Spanish speaking families and young adults with co-occuring diagnosis such as addictions, mood disorders and/or psychosis in a community mental health setting.
Her clinical areas of focus include life stress, life transitions, traumatic stress, grief, substance use behaviors, depression, anxiety, empowerment and resilience.
We are lucky to have Leslie on our team!
Embark at Campbell is so grateful for our amazing enrollment director Mia Singer LMFT. She moved from Los Angeles to Campbell – mid pandemic - and is loving it! For the past two years she has been working as a private practice therapist, working with teens and adults in individual and group therapy. Prior to this, Mia worked specifically with teen and young adults (13-25 years old) in many different forms, from residential treatment to field based therapy. Coming from a Humanistic Psychology background, Mia takes on a person/ client centered therapeutic process that focuses on self-actualization, self-efficacy, and the understanding that humans are inherently good, in order to create lasting change. In her free time Mia loves to hike and travel, whenever possible, and is trying very hard to be a better cook. Most of the time though, she is probably at home, watching TV with her very chunky cat named Lucille (pictures and videos are most definitely available, upon request).
Thank you to all who came to our open house! It was an amazing evening of collaboration and friendship.
