March is DVT Awareness Month! Our goal is to increase awareness of DVTs in our community. Did you know a blood clot or DVT can lead to a life-threatening PE (pulmonary embolism)? A PE is a blood clot that has traveled to the lungs which can interfere with your breathing.
KNOW THE SIGNS OF A DVT:
Swelling in one leg or arm
Leg/arm pain or cramping
Skin warmth to the touch
Skin color changes (red or blue)
KNOW THE SIGNS OF A PE:
Sudden difficulty breathing
Chest pain
Lightheadedness or dizziness
Rapid or irregular heart beat
Cough or coughing up blood

A common test ordered by physicians to diagnose PAD is the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) test. It is a simple, non-invasive test which utilizes blood pressure cuffs to compare pressures in the arms and the legs. .
