Congratulations Lt. Corey Deal!
This evening Lt. Deal was presented with the first Medal of Valor from CCFES at the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners meeting.
His Medal of Valor citation reads as follows:
This is to certify that the Fire Chief of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services has awarded the Medal of Valor to Lieutenant Corey Deal for acting with outstanding heroism under hazardous conditions in which he placed himself in a life-threatening position to save the life of his crew. On 9 May 2018, firefighters responded to a medical emergency and upon arrival, they found a patient who had a seizure and was in a postictal state. While providing care, the patient pulled a gun out of the couch cushion in an attempt to harm the crew. Lieutenant Corey Deal immediately jumped into action and was able to wrestle the gun away from the patient while the rest of the crew escaped the home. This performance of our mission is in keeping with the finest traditions of the American fire service and reflects greatly upon Lieutenant Corey Deal and Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services.

Always supervise children closely whenever they're in or near the pool. Designate a responsible adult as a 'water watcher' for uninterrupted supervision. Install a secure barrier around the pool to prevent unsupervised entry. It's also wise to teach kids basic swimming skills and water safety rules for added peace of mind.

Whether we're training or responding to an emergency, even firefighters wear life jackets when working around bodies of water. Boating safety is essential for a safe and enjoyable time on the water. Ensure everyone onboard wears a properly fitting life jacket. Understand boating regulations, including speed limits and navigation rules. Stay vigilant, watch for other vessels and hazards, and avoid alcohol when operating a boat. Also, stay updated with weather forecasts, share your boating plans, and carry essential safety gear like a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and throwable flotation device.

Waleska, Cherokee County - Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) has been alerted by the Waleska Water Authority regarding an interruption in the water supply affecting several areas. This disruption impacts both residential water availability and fire protection water supplied to fire hydrants.
The Waleska Water Authority has advised that a boil water advisory will be in effect once water service is restored, until further notice. CCFES is actively mobilizing additional resources within the affected areas to ensure prompt response capabilities in the event of a fire emergency.
Residents are urged to exercise caution during this period and practice fire safety and prevention measures. For inquiries regarding the interruption and water service, please direct all questions to the Waleska Water Authority: www.cityofwaleska.com
Affected area:
- Sam Nelson Rd.
- Reinhardt College Pkwy (Hwy 140) from Sam Nelson Rd. to Sardis Circle.
As we prepare to celebrate Americaβs birthday we ask that you please exercise extreme caution when discharging fireworks and avoid impeding the flow of traffic when you select a location to park your vehicle today.
With the lack of rain in our area over the past several weeks, the chance of an outdoor fire spreading quickly is extremely high. Additionally, on holidays like today, people often make the mistake of parking in a manner that makes it difficult for vehicles, especially fire apparatus, to navigate around them. Please consider this when locating your vehicle today and this evening.
Have fun, be safe, and happy Independence Day!
Please Wear It The βLife Jackets Worn...Nobody Mournsβ campaign was created to help reduce water-related fatalities
Weβd like to wish you a safe and happy Independence Day. Though our administrative offices are closed today, our 24 staffed fire stations across Cherokee County stand ready to serve 24/7/365.
Weβre excited to celebrate the significance of this day with you but ask that you please practice extreme caution if you choose to use fireworks this week. In 2022, fireworks started an estimated 30,000+ fires, including 3,504 structure fires, 887 vehicle fires, 26,492 outside fires, and 418 unclassified fires. These fires caused an estimated six civilian deaths, 44 civilian injuries and $109M in direct property damage.
To report an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
Have fun, be safe.
Happy Independence Day Cherokee County!
A heat advisory is in effect for tomorrow afternoon (1PM to 7PM). Heat indices could exceed 105, so drink plenty of WATER, take breaks in the shade/AC, and check/monitor the vulnerable (children, elderly, pets, etc.) during your independence dayπΊπΈπ celebrations.
The 4th of July is almost here. The best way to watch fireworks safely is to go to a show put on by professionals. Fireworks cause thousands of injuries, and more than 38% of those are burns. For more tips on staying safe with fireworks, visit: http://nfpa.social/E13750Soq2g

Today we reflect on the 36th anniversary of the tragic Hackensack Ford fire, where 5 brave firefighters lost their lives in Hackensack, NJ. Their sacrifice is remembered, and their courage is honored.
Today we reflect on the incredible courage and sacrifice of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Their bravery continues to inspire us all.
It has been very hot over the past few weeks with little rainfall. Fires can start with just a small spark! Be sure to practice extreme safety and caution if you choose to use fireworks over the coming weeks.
The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public fireworks display. If you do plan to use legal fireworks, here are some tips to help keep your family and friends safe.
β’ Purchase fireworks from a licensed fireworks dealer.
β’ Observe all state laws regarding the use of fireworks.
β’ Read the labels carefully before igniting any fireworks.
β’ Ensure that an adult supervises all firework activities.
β’ Never allow children to ignite fireworks.
β’ Wear safety glasses when shooting fireworks.
β’ Light only one firework at a time.
β’ Only use fireworks outdoors in a clear area, away from buildings and vehicles.
β’ Never try to relight a firework.
β’ Have a garden hose or bucket of water nearby.
β’ Use caution with animals. Excitement, noise, and lights can cause fear and stress.
