The City of Capitola is seeking community input regarding *temporary* activities on the Wharf while a long-term plan is being developed. Temporary activities would last for 1 year.

To better understand public preferences for *temporary* activities, the City has prepared a survey and invites the public to provide input. We appreciate your time in completing this survey - your input is valued!

The survey can be accessed here: https://portal.laserfiche.com/p0099/forms/survey/WharfTempUse

The building CB&B is gone. Now just the garage is left.
Had 28 great years.
The Wharf is going to be looking bare without the Restaurant and the Boat and Bait shop on it.

SIGN THE PETITION!

Overview- This joint petition from Environment California and Azul requests minor
or modest expansions for 6 state MPAs and the designation of one new State Marine Park in
order to enhance protections for California’s kelp forests – a critical ecosystem and habitat
type that provides myriad benefits for both human and marine communities, and which has
experienced significant declines in the last decade due to natural and human-related causes.
In particular, the regulation changes put forth in this petition seek to enhance protections for
resilient, stable, and persistent kelp forest patches as identified by recent analyses and
peer-reviewed research. Proposed boundary and regulation changes include (see Table 1):

i. Cabrillo SMR - expand westward and northward by 15.2 sq mi

ii. Point Dume SMCA - expand westward by 4.6 sq mi

iii. South Point SMR - expand westward by 26.3 sq mi

iv. Gull Island SMR - expand northward by 1.8 sq mi

v . Point Conception SMR - expand eastward by 14.6 sq mi

vi. Natural Bridges SMR - expand southward by 13.7 sq mi

vii. Pleasure Point, Santa Cruz - designate 3.2 sq mi as a new State Marine Reserve

‼️UPDATE‼️

Here are a few very important events coming up that we are asking anyone and everyone to attend.

The first event is another meeting on Thursday March 7th at 6 pm at Capitola City Hall. There will be 2 separate committees speaking about the possible future of the wharf and the businesses; The Wharf Enhancement Project and the introduction of K.E.L.P (Keep Embracing our Local Pier). Capitola Boat And Bait will also be speaking on our ideas for the rebuild. Once again, your presence is VITAL to get these projects in community view. So PLEASE attend this meeting if you can.. RALLY UP EVERYONE!

The second event is DEMOLITION DAY. Demolition day will be happening on March 11. The timing of day for demolition is not known at this moment. But we will be learning new information about it during the meeting this Thursday. Demolition day is going to be a sad day for our community and everyone who loves both businesses on the Wharf. We are asking you to come see us during demolition, we will have multiple tables set up around the cliffs in Capitola ( you won’t be able to miss us) and we will be gathering signatures that day….more information on this is to come as well. So stay tuned.

We NEED your presence if not at both events at least at the March 7 meeting. We need to show city Council members that we as a community will not be giving up. Thank you all for your support that you have shown already ❤️

We went out on the wharf this past weekend to pack up shop. The weather was beautiful and it was great to be back on the wharf with some of the old crew talking about all the great memories that have been shared. We packed up everything from inside the store and garage, and moved all the boats. These were the last days we will ever be able to stand inside the building that we’ve run the business out of for almost 3 decades! We appreciate everyone who came out to the city council meeting to support us. We appreciate you all for advocating for our business. We have yet to hear a decision from the city… we will keep you all informed as we hear the information.

02/18/2024

To all that is part of this inspiring and beautiful city of Capitola; We at Capitola Boat and Bait want to thank each and every one of you for the strong testament and support you have shown us as we and the city of Capitola try to come together in the hard time a head. We are thrilled to see the power of unity in action! With the help of the city council and mayor, we will get back up running stronger than ever before as they have decided to help us with finding a building so that we can reopen once the wharf remodel is finished! We can now say we feel the city is standing with us in getting back up and running as quickly as possible. We want everyone to know we are not fighting the city, they stand with us in finding a way to bring this tragedy to an end. Your continued encouragement means everything to us - let's keep pushing ahead! If you can please still come attend the city council meeting on Wednesday at 6pm.

So many memories over the years. Very grateful to the community, staff and family for 28+ years of support.
THANK YOU CAPITOLA, INDEED WE ARE CAPITOLA STRONG!

02/16/2024

What memories do you cherish the most at Capitola Boat and Bait? Was it the first fish you ever caught, the biggest fish, or your first boat ride? Maybe it was seeing dolphins or whales for the first time or teaching your child or grandchild how to fish. Perhaps it was simply sitting out in the sun enjoying the beautiful view with a cold drink in your hand. The cherished memories that we have shared over 27 years of business on the wharf are countless. Almost 3 decades of laughs, cheers, sunburns, swims, fish...the list goes on! We’ve had our ups and downs and side to side with the tides. We’ve had moments of sadness and some tough times. We’ve gone through changes both good and bad but we always found strength in each other as well as support from our customers like yourself who made all these moments possible. Our loyal customers and dedicated employees have brought us so much joy through these years. But despite all these triumphs together, we are facing the harsh reality of closing forever. The city has found structural damage to the wharf under the business that will require the destruction of the building. If the city decides to not provide us with a new building then we will not be able to reopen. We are requesting everyone's help; there will be a meeting at city hall to discuss the removal of the business buildings on the wharf. We are asking for as many people as possible to show up to this meeting and show their support for our business. To show how much the business means to so many people. If you’d like to come, the meeting starts at 6pm on Wednesday, February 21st at this address: 420 Capitola Ave, Capitola CA 95010. Let's show our support in numbers, together.

‼️We need the publics help‼️

Jojos bike was stolen from the Capitola area yesterday (January 6th) 😡It is a purple aventon electric bike. Jojo relies heavily on his bike to get around town. It would be greatly appreciated if you all could keep a look out for this bike. We will also be taking any donations towards the purchase of Jojos new bike. If you would like to make any donations you can reach out to this page, David Morris or Mike Hicks. Otherwise PLEASE keep a lookout or share this post. ✨Congrats✨
Our first boat back in today came in with a 32 inch halibut, 35 inch halibut, some rockcod and lingcod 🎣 They were using frozen squid for the halibut and live kingfish for the lingcod in about 60 feet of water on the inside of the whistle buoy 👏🏼

Despite what the CDFW website says, we have confirmed with fish and game that the daily bag limit for the California halibut is 2 fish. Please be aware of this change to avoid being fined!!
