Educating Tanzania Foundation

Our mission is to provide direct educational support to children in Tanzania, and in doing so, help empower young people to dream big and reach the stars!

"Breaking Poverty through Education." The Educating Tanzania Foundation was founded by Nancy Bushek. During a volunteer trip to Tanzania, she came to know and love many children who do not have the luxury or opportunity to go to school and receive a proper education. This standard of life perpetuates poverty and ignorance. During Nancy's time in Arusha she discovered children have an eagerness to

Please let me introduce the ETF children of the day!

Peace and Ezekiel are two of our sponsored children. They are brother and sister and they both have smiles that will light up a room! Tribal identification is an important part of Tanzanian culture. Peace and Ezekiel are proudly from the Meru tribe, and the Mt. Meru region of Tanzania is the location of their tribal home.

We will never forget when in 2020 we brought visitors to meet some of the children at their school, many of whom did not yet have sponsors.

Ezekiel and Peace both latched on to our guests and they each found their sponsors that day. Gayle Gordon and Gordon began their sponsorship of Ezekiel and Jackie Chartier began her sponsorship of Peace that day. It was a magical and life changing day for all of us!

Ezekiel is currently in his first year at Scolastica Secondary School and Peace is in her final year at Green Valley Primary School. Peace will join her brother at secondary next year and they will be happy to attend the same school again!

Sponsorship changes lives and with your help, we are changing lives, one life at a time.

Photos from Educating Tanzania Foundation's post 09/01/2024

Our ETF students of the day are Loveness and Sonia!!!

Loveness and Sonia are our two oldest sponsored students. We began sponsoring them both in 2018 when they were both about 11 or 12 years old and had lost their educational sponsors. These girls are very good friends and look out for each other both at school and in life. They will both be graduating from Winners Secondary School at the end of 2024! Prior to graduation, they will be taking the National Exam which determines their academic futures. National exams are a very stressful time for students. The education system in Tanzania consists of 2 years of preprimary education, 7 years of primary education, 4 years of secondary education, 2 years of advanced secondary education and 3 or more years of tertiary education (University). We have learned that the additional 2 years of advanced secondary education following secondary school, (similar to the first two years of college in the US), are essential to a student’s academic progress. After these two years of advanced secondary education, students are prepared to enter the professional workforce or, if accepted, continue on to University. If a student does not continue with advanced secondary school, a trade school is their best option for future employment. The 3 or more years of tertiary education (University) are earned by only the most academically elite of Tanzania’s students, based upon their past school performance and the national exams they will take after their advanced secondary education. School is very challenging in Tanzania and our sponsored students work as hard as they are able to compete for those eventual University spots. They won’t all get there, but they will have an excellent education and speak fluent English, a very big differentiator for them.
