Good news is wages are rising. Unfortunately, that may also be bad news. Here's why. Hot inflation could push wages up, which could boost prices again, in a "wage-price spiral. Is that what's happening?

Dental Hygienists: If an office is not putting you on its payroll, you aren't covered under the dentist's Malpractice insurance.
Dental Offices: If you are 'hiring' a dental hygienist for a day or more but aren't putting him/her on the office's payroll, unless this hygienist has his/her own Malpractice insurance, the office could be at risk. Who is paying for unemployment & social security taxes, federal taxes, state taxes, county taxes?
Dental hygienists are not Independent Contractors in the eyes of the law. They should not be receiving 1099s.

This is for all dental staff, office managers, and dentists. No dental staff (except a dentist) can be legally supplied a 1099 at the end of the year and must be put on an office's payroll so that the proper taxes are paid. Dental Assistants & hygienists are not Independent Contractors! Be careful with 'same day pay'. Want to work for or utilize a temp agency that puts all dental staff on payroll? I was recently asked about private dental practices versus corporate. I have worked in both. My advice is not to make a change solely on more $. A few things, in my opinion, that are more important in no particular order: hours that the practice is open, the treatment of the patients, teamwork, a great dentist(s) and/or office manager, etc. These are important areas to consider. I believe that if one (whether it is the office or the dental staff personnel) makes a decision based solely on money, then that person or office in the long run will not be satisfied. www.dental-assist.com
