Buffer bill is anti-agriculture 01/19/2022

Washington State House Bill 1838

This bill, if passed would create a buffer of 235' of "no touch" land from any river, lake and wetland. This will not just affect us farmers. This will affect all of the people who enjoy the resources we all provide. How many farmers that populate the farmer's markets, both locally and in the urban areas, will be forced out of business? Where will you u-pick strawberries and raspberries? How about the upick pumpkins and the fall festivals that they support? Who likes local grass fed beef? This "no touch" zone will impact or eliminate all of these and other farm commodities. The "no touch" zone will not grow back as native vegetation. It will be overgrown with blackberries and japanese knotweed, neither of which have near the filtering ability of grass and other crops. As an example, this will reduce our current tillable acreage from 43 acres to 17!! Please call your Washington States legislators and tell them "NO" on House Bill 1838!!

Buffer bill is anti-agriculture House bill 1838 is an agriculture killer for Washington state.
