I am very interested to see where this goes. My suspicion is that neuroinflammation plays a role in some psychiatric disorders, such as depresiion or anxiety, and semaglutide has been shown to reduce overall levels of HS-CRP, a global marker for inflammation. So it may be possible that weight loss medications may improve neurocognitive conditions. There is already positive data on slowing cognitive decline in dementia.
Expert Calls for Research into GLP-1s for Mental Illness Recent research easing suicidality concerns about GLP-1s and suggesting potential psychiatric benefit has led to a call for further study of these drugs for mental illness.
