Local 4103 regrets to inform our members and followers of the untimely passing of Raleigh Fire captain and 50-210 fire chief Nathan Burgess. Captain Burgess was a fireman’s fireman and a true champion of the fire service. He left it better than he found it and his presence will be missed in firehouses and firegrounds across the area. Keep the family and Brothers in Raleigh Professional Fire Fighters Association in your prayers in the days and months ahead.
It is with immense sadness to announce the active duty death of Raleigh Professional Firefighters Association Local 548 member, Captain Nate Burgess.
Father, Husband, Brother, Son, Mentor, Friend, Chief, Captain, Instructor, Veteran, Fireman were all titles held by Nate. A profound family man and tough fireman, Nate served The City of Raleigh and Johnston County residents for many years before a battle with job related cancer started a few months back, ultimately calling him back home for his final journey.
Cancer sucks. It is an ugly truth that is becoming more evident will affect many more firefighters. No longer are the dangers just firefighting or vehicle accidents, we're now being chased by carcinogens in our line of work, and in our gear that is supposed to protect us.
We will miss you Nate. That big, loud, jovial laugh we can all hear right now. We're sure you've already found a kitchen table to gather round, with a warm cup of coffee (or monster), and somebody's chops to bust.
Rest Easy Brother
