There will be a national test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) TODAY at approximately 2:20 PM.

The test ensures the systems continue to effectively warn the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. The EAS portion will be sent to radios and televisions.

In case the test today is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the backup testing date is October 11.

Our History

Cary Rescue Squad was formed because in the summer of 1971 a 4 year old boy was struck by a furniture truck and died in the street after waiting 45 minutes for an ambulance to respond from Raleigh. The first meeting of the steering committee was September 19, 1971. At this meeting, the charter members agreed that the rescue squad should not be a part of YRAC fire department and a week later they had a meeting with Fred Bond, Mayor of Cary, to discuss funding.
