Let me walk you through the story of this lil card. Equal parts funny/goofy and serious.
I made these cards when I was 21. I had been sober for like a year and was full bore into trying to find ways to help other people become healthier, happier, and escape their demons like I had. I was studying for a personal training cert and taking classes at the community college. I had also recently joined one of those “this isn’t a pyramid scheme” pyramid schemes because I was convinced their products and all that were a health solution (once I realized it was a scheme a few months later I dipped, don’t worry, been hatin on em ever since). So I made these cards with the cheesy quotes because I was sure I’d need em to become this health and fitness icon.
For the serious part, when people look at what I’m doing now they might not see the literal decade it took to get to this point. They might not see the focus and vision that existed from the beginning. The blood, sweat, tears, loss, sacrifice… the growth and change. But I did this because I believe (and there’s a heck of a lot of science to support it) that integrating fitness into not only physical but mental health can change outcomes for people in spectacular fashion. So yeah I’m a bit crazy. And I don’t know if I can change the whole world, but I can make an impact in our community, and I’m gonna start there.
Stay Flexin 💪

THINKIN THURSDAY is a new Meathead Minute series and will literally feature a random thing I’ve been thinking about related to health, fitness, or behavior. I expect robust discussion.
How in tarnation do supplement companies ensure that the ingredient distribution in their stuff is equal? Like if the label says 3g of X and 3g of Y and 3g of Z, but it’s loose powder, how do you know you’re getting 3, 3, and 3??? This shatters my mind. Maybe it’s a supplement industry magical conspiracy. Discuss in the comments. Share and retweet to spread awareness.
TECHNIQUE TUESDAY
Before I get going on this, PLEASE understand that monitoring and controlling caloric intake through food is absolutely king when it comes to weight management. Exercise only accounts for like 10-30 percent of total caloric expenditure by the body over the course of a day, so being in a caloric deficit with your food intake is ultimately WAYYY more important. That being said, if your food is locked in, one TECHNIQUE to slightly enhance overall caloric expenditure is use of a weighted vest! It’s not a huge difference, but if you wear it over an extended period of time while doing physical activity it can add up. I like to strap mine on while I’m doing yard work, going on walks, etc. Aim for a vest weight of somewhere between 10-15% of your body weight. Stay flexin! (Also any opportunity to share a picture of this level of Dad-Swag is always welcome)
Hey, don’t drink. Also remember as a dude who has been sober for almost 9 years I am extremely biased 😂
If you’re new to Meathead Minute, it’s a series I’ve run on Instagram for a while now. Health, fitness, behavior, psychology, anything meatheady, along with some fun stuff like Meathead History.
