The City of Casselberry won the Community Award 🏆at the Inaugural FDOT District 5 Central Florida Safety Summit for the Sunset Drive LIveable Street Improvements Project! By influencing people's behavior, the features of Sunset Drive improve both safety and health of the community. This mile-long two-lane project features travel lanes to a width of ten feet, tighter corners at intersections, and two raised crosswalks to make drivers naturally slow down a bit more, giving safer opportunities for walkers to cross the street while also providing a nice comfortable drive for motorists going the speed limit. Area residents know this stretch of road not only is heavily traveled, but also has a lot of children walking to and from school, and golfers on carts with the Casselberry Golf Club in close proximity. With the leadership of Dr. Kelly Brock, Public Works & Utilities Director, Casselberry has already made great strides toward our goal of becoming the most walkable, rollable, and bikeable City in Central Florida by 2040 with a balanced multimodal transportation system! 🚶‍♀️👩‍🦽🏃‍♂️🚴‍♂️🥇🙌
🎉

At the Inaugural Central Florida Safety Summit FDOT District 5 recognized several partners with awards in six categories. 🏆

City of Casselberry won the Community Award for their dedicated approach to making their community feel safer while on their roadways!

They affirm that all road projects should be designed to comfortably accommodate all users in their ‘Connecting Casselberry: The Casselberry Multimodal Transportation Master Plan.' One example that has come out of this policy is the Sunset Drive Livable Street Improvements Project, which shows how infrastructure can influence human behavior. This mile-long two-lane street now features some of the key design guidelines contained in the City’s Healthy Community Complete Streets Policy, including narrowed travel lanes to a width of ten feet, tighter corners at intersections, and two raised crosswalks to make drivers naturally slow down a bit more, giving safer opportunities for walkers to cross the street while also providing a nice, comfortable drive for motorists going the speed limit.

By influencing people’s behavior, the features of Sunset Drive improve both safety and health of the community. The project was made possible in partnership with
MetroPlan Orlando and FDOT.

Thank you to the City of Casselberry for not only their forward thinking, but for helping create safer roadways for residents!🎉

Eric Darius headlines Spring Jazz and Art Festival

Eric Darius, one of the best live Jazz performers in the world, returns to Casselberry to headline the Spring Jazz and Art Festival on Saturday, March 16, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lake Concord Park. With his iconic, signature jump and crowd-captivating energy, Billboard chart topping, American saxophonist, songwriter, producer, and performer, Eric Darius, is breaking the mold of modern Jazz. His latest and boldest venture to date, “Unleashed”, is a testament to his ever-evolving artistic vision, fearlessly pushing all musical boundaries while innovatively fusing Jazz with elements of R&B, Hip-Hop, Funk, Pop, and much more.

Born into a musical household with Caribbean influences, Eric's musical journey from Tampa, Florida started early at the age of 11, performing at the prestigious Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland with Sonny LaRosa & America's Youngest Jazz Band. Performing over a hundred shows a year in his early teens honing his craft, he went on to record his first album independently at age 16, then made his major label debut on the global stage in 2004 with the release of Night on the Town. Taking the world by storm and causing a frenzy never seen before in Contemporary Jazz, he was prophetically hailed Debut Artist of the Year by Smooth Jazz News Magazine later that year.

With eight highly acclaimed albums to his name, Darius continues to be a singular force on the music scene while forging new paths and bridging generational gaps. To date, he has racked up five No. 1 Hit Singles and 17 Top 10 Radio Hits on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart.
