“Lucky Day books are extra copies of popular titles that cannot be reserved, so on any given day a patron may find a popular bestseller on the shelf that would otherwise not be available,” said Eastwood. “They are available on a first-come basis and have a shorter checkout period of 14 days.”

Buy the Book Celebrates Its Big 3!
Buy the Book, run by Cedarburg Friends of the Library, celebrated its third anniversary last week. Located in a former closet where the Friends used to sort books, this little used book store has grown into a big fundraiser for the Friends. Since opening in 2019, over $30,000 has been raised from the sale of donated used hardcover books, trade fiction, mass market paperbacks, CDs, DVDs, children’s books, and puzzles. Books and more are still $3 or less. Hardcover books - $2, CDs and DVD - $1, puzzles - $3, magazines - $1, and most children’s books are 3 for $1.
“This really is a success story,” said Heidi May, Co-President of CFOL. “We were very optimistic when we opened December 2019, then 2020 shut our doors; once reopened we expanded our hours to match the Library’s and haven’t looked back since.”
All books and other items sold at Buy the Book are donated. “We are so impressed by the quality and quantity of items donated to the store,” May continued. “As well, many donations are current best sellers…ones someone paid $20-30 for at a retail store.” Buy the Book is the only bookstore in Ozaukee County. In addition its open 7 days a week for a total of 60 hours now during the school year. “When the Library is open, the bookstore is open,” added May.
The Cedarburg Friends of the Library is dedicated to supporting the Cedarburg Public Library by providing funding beyond the scope of the Library’s operating budget. Proceeds support children’s summer reading programs; purchase of new best seller novels; Great Decisions and Taking the World’s Hot Spots programming; Maker and Tinker labs; 3D and large format printers, audio, and camera equipment; and so much more. To support the important work of the Friends, books, puzzles, magazines, and DVD/CD donations can be dropped off at the Library.
