The Castle

The Castle is a gathering place of trust/friendship which supports people with mental illness However, many times communications break down.

The Castle is a vital part of the mental health delivery system in Montgomery County. As a social club, we provide a place for peer support, a place to have fun while learning responsibility, accountability and gaining some empowerment over the leisure time. We strive to be a compliment to other clinical services in the region. The Friends Of The Castle (or The Castle as it is known in our communi

Day two of our Camp Chautauqua Adventure is shaping up nicely! Thanks to the wonderful staff at camp and our volunteers/staff from The Castle for showing our members a great time! The day started with a hearty breakfast followed by stretching/exercise. We moved on to some super fun and competitive games before another awesome lunch. Plenty on the agenda this afternoon/evening, including some much-needed cooling off in the pool. (It was 97 degrees at last check!)

We started another journey at lovely Camp Chautauqua on Monday! 36 (wow!) members are participating this year. Once we arrived, our day began with a favorite activity...lunch! The remainder of the day was filled with fun activities, including the ever-popular human car wash. (It was HOT!!!) Keeping track of everyone and everything was our Executive Director Lisa sporting her bright yellow shirt and heat friendly hairdo! Stay tuned to see what day 2 brings!

MAKE A DIFFERENCE: The Castle in Centerville serves those with mental illness. Hereโ€™s how you can help It all began in 1991 when folks in our community were looking for a way to support loved ones suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. Their dream of providing a place of belonging came true when The Castle opened its doors on Oct. 11,1993.Since then the nonprofit facility has served Cen...

When I asked for a quote from one of our member's family members I received this email from a son of one of our members. I just had to share it.

"The Castle has been a life changing, God Send! for my father Franklin.

Apart from his meds, the next most important, or equally important thing he needed, was to get out of the house, socialize, but mostly ROUTINE!

I still can't believe members only pay $2 / day for what they get!

A positive place to go, with familiar friendly faces, Monday - Friday ~10am - 4pm

My father improved tremendously from participating and being a member of the Castle.

I cannot thank them enough and I don't think I'll ever be able to."

Thanks,

JM

Another family member wrote:

"The Castle means very much to my family, in fact, it is big part of the reason my disabled sister has any meaning and quality of life."
