Stacey Carol Hover
Stacey Carol Hover, fifty-five years young, passed away while surrounded by loved ones on October 16, 2024, in Escondido, California.
A celebration and memorialization of Stacey's life will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Elwood Baptist Church in Elwood, Texas, followed by her burial at Allphin Cemetery. A second celebration of life will be held in California in the near future.
Stacey was born on April 15, 1969, to Don and Janette Reynolds in Conroe, Texas. Stacey graduated from Madisonville High School in 1987, Salutatorian of her class. Stacey graduated from Sam Houston State University with a BBA in Accounting, followed by a Masters in Accounting from University of Houston.
Stacey's closest friends growing up were Lisa Hatcher and Stacey's cousin, Jenny Harrell. Stacey cherished their friendship and they would remain lifelong friends. Stacey's family is very appreciative of the kindness and support Jenny and Lisa gave during Stacey's cancer journey and afterwards.
Stacey's first years of work included managing a NutriSystem Weight Loss Center in Humble, Texas, teaching a Computer Skills class to incarcerated men in a prison near Huntsville, Texas, and teaching Accounting Principles to high school students in Round Rock, Texas. Stacey was perfect for these teaching jobs, as her innate patience, empathy, kindness, and respect for all persons instilled trust and confidence in those she sought to help.
In 2004, Stacey moved to California and married her husband, James Edward "Jim" Hover. She loved being a stepmom to their son, Nolan Ryan Hover, whom she would always adore and in whom she was very proud as he became a successful young adult. Through the years, Stacey became good friends with Nolan's mom, Amy Russo, and her husband Rich, along with Nolan's siblings Colin, Emily, and Aiden, and Amy's parents, affectionately known as "Ma" and "Pa." Stacey's family is very appreciative of how kind and supportive Amy and her family have been during Stacey's cancer journey and afterwards.
Regarding her professional life, Stacey began her work in California in San Diego at the corporate headquarters of Kratos Defense, a security, defense, and technology company. In 2012, she became a Government Compliance Specialist with General Atomics (GA), an American energy, defense, technology, and security corporation also headquartered in San Diego, whose pursuits include, among other things, advanced technology in unmanned aircraft and developments in nuclear fusion and nuclear fission. Stacey loved working with her GA "family," and especially enjoyed her friendships on her Government Accounting team.
Stacey's family deeply appreciates how GA accommodated, encouraged, and supported Stacey throughout her four-plus year cancer journey and afterwards.
In the Spring of 2024, when switched to a pill form of chemotherapy that allowed her freedom from weekly infusion center visits, Stacey enjoyed a two week trip to Dublin, Belfast, Madrid, Paris, and London with her husband and her sister, Jantha (who adored her). Her niece, Audrey, joined them in Madrid (where she lives and works) and in London.
Excepting this European trip, Stacey worked full time with GA until a few weeks before what would become her final few hospitalizations. She consoled her family and friends when the hard news came that she could not proceed with the Clinical Trial at MD Anderson to which she had already been accepted, but instead needed to enter hospice care. Even during these most difficult moments, she looked to care for others first. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, selflessness, and bravery for us all.
In addition to enjoying her family, friends and work, Stacey enjoyed attending church, coming home to Texas to help her parents and visit her siblings and lifelong friends, hosting parties in her home, listening to good music and putting together expansive jigsaw puzzles, and, with her beloved stepson and husband, attending San Diego Padres games and Airshows featuring the Blue Angels, and attending and watching NASCAR races and events. She also enjoyed the San Diego Chargers before they left for LA.
As a person, Stacey will be forever remembered as kind, funny, fair, strong, humble, loyal, respectful (though at times irreverent), giving, hard working, and a great friend. She always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Stacey was beloved by so many and will be sorely missed.
Stacey was preceded in death by her beloved father, Don Reynolds; her uncle, John. J. Reynolds; her aunts, Diane Holliday and Frances Reynolds; her grandparents, O.B. and Ethel Mae Reynolds and Cecil and Marie Holliday; and her first cousin, Russell Bryant Reynolds.
Stacey is survived by her husband, James "Jim" Edward Hover; her stepson, Nolan Ryan Hover; her mother, Janice Janette Reynolds; her brother, Troy Dean Reynolds and wife, Lilliana "Lilly" Rivera Reynolds of Spring, Texas; and her sister, Jantha Reynolds Houston and husband, Samuel Ainsworth Houston of Houston, Texas. Stacey is also survived by two nieces and two nephews, Shane Antonio Reynolds (25), Donald "Donnie" Gray Houston (24), Cecilia "Ceci" Marisa Reynolds (23), and Audrey Grace Houston (23). Stacey is further survived by her "Nana," Minnie Rivera; by her first cousins, Robin Wakefield of Centerville, Texas and Regina Possiot of Cypress, Texas; and a slew of fantastic extended cousins and relatives that make up the Reynolds/Grisham family, all of whom Stacey appreciated and enjoyed.
Pallbearers: Nolan Hover, Troy Reynolds, Sam Houston, Conrad Rivera, Shane Reynolds, Donnie Houston

Leola McMahan Rice
Leola McMahan Rice, 97, made her entrance into this world on February 14, 1927, in North Zulch, Texas and made her entrance into glory on November 1, 2024. She was the daughter of proud parents, William Albert and Virgie (Isbell) McMahan. She was a lifelong resident of the area around North Zulch and Iola and blessed the lives of many people over the course of her life.
There are so many wonderful things that can be said about Leola. She was so kindhearted and saw great value in the lives of those she encountered. This was especially evident in her care for the elderly as she would carry them to doctor’s appointments and visit them on a regular basis. Leola will be fondly remembered as a woman with a solid work ethic. She spent many years in custodial service in the Iola school district and was very proud of the work she did there. When she was not working at the school, she was digging in the garden or mowing the lawn, something else Leola was passionate about.
Leola was a great cook, and many were blessed by her recipes over the years. Her meals definitely left a lasting mark on those who sat at her table. Leola had the uncanny ability to say exactly what was on her mind to whoever she felt needed to hear it. She had a little bit of a stubborn streak, but it was balanced out with a loving and caring disposition that molded her together into one great lady.
Leola adored her family, especially her kids and grandchildren. She set a wonderful example for others to follow and was an instrument of God’s righteousness as He reached through Leola into the lives of others. Her life was characterized by sacrifice and service to others.
Leola is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floy Rice; grandson, Michael Floy Rice, II; brother William Albert McMahan; and sister, Ivas Rose Schimming.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Michael “Bubba” Rice (Mona) of Iola; daughter, Ola Mae Nicol (Everett) of Tomball; grandchildren, Greg (Rachel), Stephanie, Amy (Michael), Steven (Haley) and Kevin (Mary); nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.
A graveside service honoring the life of Leola Rice and officiated by Jerry McMahon will be held in the Cross Cemetery, Cross, Texas, on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 1 P.M.

Tommy Doyle Ivey
Tommy Doyle Ivey, 80, was born on February 10, 1944, in Crockett, Texas to parents, Ernest Freeman and Ethel Alvin (Starns) Ivey, and passed away on October 27, 2024, at his home in Midway, Texas.
There are many ways to describe Tommy Doyle Ivey. He was a very loving and devoted husband to his wife Connie for nearly forty-seven years and loved her with every ounce of his being. Right up until his last breath they were inseparable. He was a wonderful and supportive father to his eight children and a very loving grandfather to thirty grandchildren and a great-grandfather to thirteen more. He was also an amazing brother, uncle, and friend to all he met.
He was a truck driver by trade for much of his life, but that was just to pay the bills. It is difficult to narrow down his hobbies and talents because he was great at so many things. One of his great loves was bull riding. Even at eighty he said that he wished he could get on a bull just one more time. We had to convince him that was probably not the best idea.
From a very young age he was an avid c**n hunter. Something he learned from his own father. And he loved it more than anything. If there was ever a free moment in his busy life you can bet he was spending it with his dogs and treeing c**ns. Connie told us a story about when they first got together, she went and bought a big dog collar to wear. Don't worry! This isn't getting dirty! She tied herself to the porch and howled like the dogs to get him to give her some of the attention he gave the dogs. I think just about everyone that knew him can tell a story about him related to hunting or c**n dogs.
He was always busy doing something, bringing treasures home that needed to be fixed, and you could usually find him piddling in something in the yard, or in the shed tinkering with something. He was a Fred Sanford of sorts with piles of projects here and there that would never be finished. He was the king of "do it yourself" and if he couldn't get it to work the proper way, he would make it work his way. To be politically correct we'll just say he "Doyle-ified" it.
He was hardheaded and had a temper that he'd unleash on you if you deserved it. He even had a patch of hair on the back of his head affectionately referred to as "the rooster tail" that would undoubtedly stand up when he was really mad about. If you saw that you knew without a doubt someone was on his fighting side.
But despite the temper, he most definitely had a soft spot for children and babies. And boy did the babies light him up. He was attentive, patient, and eager to entertain, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If there was a baby around, you can bet he was right there doing the spoiling.
Another wonderful thing about him was that he was a devoted and faithful lover of the Lord. In his last few months, he was faced with a lot of health problems, but his faith never wavered. Anytime someone would speak to him about his troubles he would just proudly show them his bracelet that said, "I can't help but testify" and tell them that he was in God's hands. I know he did not want to leave us, but we know he was not afraid. He said he knew where he was going and when it was his time, he'd be glad to go there. He spent the last Sunday he had on this earth singing and praising Jesus and re-dedicated himself to the Lord.
There is not enough room on this page, nor will there be time in the service to list all the wonderful things to be said about the man that Tommy Doyle Ivey was, but he was a great storyteller so I hope everyone will share their stories about him. As much as he loved his family, we loved him more. We love you forever.
A time of visitation is scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the chapel at the Madisonville Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Tommy's life will be held the following afternoon on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Harvest Church in Crockett, Texas at 2 P.M. Dennis Ivey will officiate the service, and burial will take place in the Elwood Cemetery.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Matthew; and three sisters, Marie, Dobber and Alene.
Those left to cherish Doyle's memory are his faithful and loving wife of forty-six years, Connie; sons, Ernest Ivey (Samantha), Jason Ivey (Christa), Dallas Ivey (Shenah) and Joshua Ivey (Jennifer); daughters, Leah Drury, Sharla Stott and Fayelynn Cobb (David); brothers Sam Ivey (LelaNell) and Dennis Ivey (Carolyn); sisters, Adna Hawthorne and Martha Bryan; thirty grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and countless other nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.

David Arthur McGinnis
David Arthur McGinnis, 68, of Madisonville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He was born in 1956, in Pontiac, Michigan, the eldest son of Calvin and Clara McGinnis. David's sense of duty and loyalty was evident in his service to his country in the United States Marine Corps from July 1974 to May 1979, a period that shaped his life and character.
Dave was a man of few words in most settings, but his quiet strength and genuine kindness spoke volumes to those who knew him. He was the first to lend a hand when help was needed and was always ready with a joke-though sometimes only he fully understood the punchline. He had a unique ability to make others smile, whether through his humor, generous spirit, or effortless ability to lead by example.
Though soft-spoken, Dave's love for life often shone brightly on the dance floor, where he never missed a chance to join in. His love for dancing was only matched by his love for his family. A devoted husband to Becky McGinnis for nearly 40 years, Dave was the proud father of four children and a loving grandfather of seven. He never missed an opportunity to show his support, and he was always his children's biggest fan, whether in their work, school, or life.
A man of deep faith, Dave dedicated himself to the Catholic Church, serving as an Acolyte, a Knight of Columbus, and a member of The Order of Discalced Carmelite Secular. His commitment to faith was reflected in his actions and the care he extended to those around him. He was also an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers, and Lions and his adopted hometown teams, the Houston Astros and Texans.
Dave will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence comforted all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Clara McGinnis and his brother, Darryl McGinnis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca McGinnis; his brother, Duane McGinnis; his sister, Denise Webb; his daughter, Holly McGinnis; his sons, Ian (wife Janis), Patrick (Stephy), and Matthew (Lisa) McGinnis; his grandchildren, John, Joel, Nathan, Zoe, Mila, Max, and Isaac; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 100 S. Tammye Lane, Madisonville, Texas, on November 16, 2024, to celebrate Dave's life. The rosary will be held 10 A.M., visitation at 10:30, and a funeral mass 11 A.M., with a luncheon to follow. All are welcome to join in remembrance and support of his family.
