đ The Power of Sunshine on Mental Health đ
Did you know that sunshine can have a profound impact on our mental well-being? As the days get longer and brighter, let's take a moment to appreciate the incredible benefits that sunshine brings to our mental health.
âď¸ Mood Booster: Exposure to sunlight stimulates the production of serotonin, a hormone that helps regulate mood and promotes feelings of happiness and well-being. Soaking up the sun can lift your spirits and leave you feeling rejuvenated.
âď¸ Vitamin D Boost: Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in brain health. Sufficient vitamin D levels have been linked to reduced symptoms of depression and improved cognitive function. Remember to soak in some sunshine (safely, of course!) to support your vitamin D intake.
âď¸ Stress Relief: Spending time outdoors in the sunshine can help reduce stress levels. The fresh air, warmth, and natural surroundings create a peaceful environment that allows you to relax, unwind, and let go of everyday worries.
âď¸ Improved Sleep: Exposure to natural light, especially in the morning, helps regulate your body's internal clock and improves sleep quality. A well-rested mind is better equipped to handle the challenges of the day, so don't forget to catch some rays to support your sleep routine.
âď¸ Get Active Outdoors: Sun-filled days offer the perfect opportunity to engage in outdoor activities. Whether it's a leisurely walk, a picnic in the park, or a bike ride, exercising outdoors under the sun provides physical benefits while boosting your mental well-being.
So, let's embrace the sunshine and make the most of its positive effects on our mental health. Get outside, feel the warmth on your skin, and enjoy the many gifts that the sun has to offer! âď¸đ
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of mental health and ending the stigma surrounding mental illness. If you're struggling with your mental health, please know that you're not alone. It's okay to ask for help, and seeking treatment can make a world of difference. Let's work together to support each other's mental health and break down the barriers that prevent people from getting the care they need.
January 2023 marks the start of National Mentoring Month. Mentoring.org shares that this month is used to come together in order to help young people find positive role models. Check out this infographic from their website which shares some stats about youth who have a mentor.
A Touch of Hope supports mentoring and partners with Banisters Leadership Academy to provide such services and programs to local youth. Chadron also has other mentoring groups such as TeamMates.
Happy snowy Monday! Most of our clinicians are back in action today! Let us know if you need to reschedule sessions based on the weather.
Our own clinician was interviewed for this article on Seasonal Affective Disorder. Check it out!!
Be aware of Seasonal Affective Disorder With the winter chill and snow keeping many people indoors, and the actual season just getting underway, itâs important to not only keep checks on physical but also mental health.
Welcome to 2023 from all of us at A Touch of Hope Therapy!
New Yearâs is coming faster than we know it. So letâs talk about resolutions.
Some people rely on these to go into the new year feeling motivated and ready to make substantial changes. While others struggle to feel find hope or reason to create resolutions anyway.
Some say resolutions set them up for failure.
Some say that there is too much pressure to set resolutions.
Some fall into the âgo big or go homeâ mindset.
Some notice their mental health deteriorate if they fall short of their resolution expectations.
So how do we adjust our expectations of resolutions to help us feel successful and prevent mental health deterioration?
Set realistic goals. Understand that sometimes, failure is part of the process and each failure is an opportunity for growth. Be prepared for your resolutions to take time and that changes will not happen overnight. Be gentle with yourself and what you expect of yourself. Set some rewards to motivate yourself and keep you on track to your goals. Seek support and share your goals with trusted individuals to help you find accountability and feel motivated to reach your goals.
Also, if you do not want to create resolutions, donât. There is no requirement to set New Yearâs Resolutions and not having resolutions does not mean you are incapable of change in the new year.
If your goals are related to mental health, we would LOVE to hear them!

Trauma can be particularly triggered during the holiday season. There are often triggers and traditions that provoke a trauma response and often cannot be helped or avoided. Here are some tips to manage difficult mental health struggles during this time of the year.
1. Take a break! It is okay to need some space to be with your thoughts and emotions. Even if you need to be in anotherâs space, you deserve space to honor your thoughts and emotions.
2. Set boundaries and enforce them. You boundaries are there to keep you safe and well. Those who are unhappy about your boundaries are those who benefit from you not having any.
3. Decide for yourself. So often there are many things we cannot control during this season. Focus on what you can and make those decisions for yourself.
4. Ask for support. Find someone you trust and allow yourself to receive help when needed.
5. Start a new tradition. Itâs okay! You are allowed to decide what the holiday season needs to look like for you. Make some changes! Do things that make you feel good, safe, and healthy and make that a tradition. You are allowed to create new rules in holiday management!
If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health, please contact our clinicians at 308-360-3703
