CHAMBERSBURG NOTIFIED BY CSX RAILROAD CONTRACTOR ORCHARD DRIVE RR CROSSING WILL BE CLOSED BEGINNING ON 5/23/2022

Chambersburg – On Monday, May 16, 2022, the Borough of Chambersburg received official word from a contractor for the CSX Railroad that their Orchard Drive railroad crossing near Wayne Avenue (PA 316) is to be closed for a maintenance project beginning sometime Monday, May 23, 2022. Hundreds of cars, tractor-trailers and school buses use this railroad crossing every day. CSX Railroad has not indicated how long the closing might last.

The Borough is moving quickly to notify as many folks as possible so that they may choose other routes or avoid this area altogether. The Borough has suggested a detour plan to include Kriner Road in Guilford Township as the main route to avoid this area. The Borough has been told that access to all businesses on Orchard Drive will remain open during construction. Customers, tractor-trailers, and employees may be forced to use different routes to avoid the closed railroad crossing.

For the 1200-1300 block of Orchard Drive access remains from Wayne Avenue (PA 316).
For the 1400-1600 blocks of Orchard Drive access remains from either S. Main Street (U.S. 11) or Kriner Road & Nitterhouse Drive.

The Borough of Chambersburg has notified Franklin County so that emergency vehicles can avoid the closed railroad crossing.

Impacted businesses include Ventura Foods, Results Fitness, Relax Lounge, The Orchards, WIKA Mobile, Nursery Supplies, Dollar General, Spicher’s Appliances, RISE Medical Dispensary, The Nutrition Center, Summit Occupational Health, Jenni Nails & Spa, Caliber Collision, and others. All will remain accessible via Orchard Drive from S. Main Street. The following businesses will only be accessible from Wayne Avenue: Orrstown Bank, Rain Tunnel Car Wash, and Jiffy L**e.

If you have an appointment with us this week, orchard dr is closed at the railroad tracks closest to the salon. If you normally come from route 11 you will need to detour. You can get here from Wayne ave. The information we received said it will be just this week.
