One of our storytime graduates hit a milestone today. Miss Harper has checked out 300 books since getting her library card in April 2023. She was awarded a handmade bookmark made by a 94 year old lady in Florida whose family sent her bookmarks to a library in every state. Congratulations !

Last weekend, our Library Director Donna Calvert and our Library Assistant Sarah Marzouk attended the National Book Festival hosted by the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.! As the West Virginia Affiliate for the Library of Congress's Center for the Book, they tabled for the state of West Virginia in the festival's popular event Roadmap to Reading. Roadmap to Reading features every U.S. state and territory, wherein each table has one adult title and one children's title related to the region in some way (authors are from the region, the book is set there, etc). These titles are called Great Reads. Our adult title was Following the Silence by WV Poet Laureate Marc Harshman. Our children's title, written by native West Virginians, was Fallingwater: The Building of Frank Lloyd Wright's Masterpiece, written by Marc Harshman and Anna Egan Smucker, and illustrated by LeUyen Pham.

For the Roadmap to Reading, the festival gives out free maps to attendees. With those maps, attendees go to every table and get a special stamp in the table's respective region! Attendees with a fully stamped map got a free prize. We had a blast stamping thousands of people's maps with cardinals and rhododendrons, our state bird and flower!
