If you were a student athlete, you are invited to gather at the Boathouse for drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and s'mores by the fire pit. Come to reminisce about all the wins and lessons learned as a Golden Eagle athletic competitor!

Tailgate Time! The party moves to UC Stadium at Laidley Field at 11:30 am on Saturday morning with food and drinks under the tailgate tent. Enjoy fellowship with your Golden Eagle friends and then head into the stadium for the Homecoming Football game and halftime festivities set to begin at 1:00 pm.

(Your football game tickets are not included with your Tailgate registration.)

The 2024 UC Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner will recognize Kimberly D'Angelo Smee ('14, women's soccer), Rebecca LaBrake ('08, women's volleyball), Coach Tony DeMeo (football), and Dion Peters ('13, men's soccer). Come and support these accomplished athletes and enjoy dinner in the Erma Byrd Gallery.

A gift to the “More than a White Coat” campaign helps cover the cost of their white coat with supplies. The Golden Reunion is an annual event held to gather classes celebrating their 40th, 45th, and 50th reunions. If you graduated in 1984, 1979, or 1974, this is YOUR year! 🦅☀️Another Summertime Stop By!
Delaina (Dee Dee) Bivins Given ('77) now resides in Alabama but is in town visiting friend and Delta Zeta sorority sister, Mary Barnette Semder ('75).
Dee Dee particularly wanted to see where the two bricks she purchased are going to be laid. We were delighted to point out the spot where the bricks named for Dee Dee and, her father, Jimmie Bivins ('62) will be placed!

We can't wait for so many of you to stop by and see your bricks in the coming months!

Summer weekends are for.....Alumni Gatherings (official and unofficial)!
David Kurtz ('80), our "alumni reporter" for this post, had a weekend full of reuniting with Golden Eagles. We hope you will join us for our largest gathering of the year, Homecoming and Family Weekend, Sept. 20 & 21!

From David:
This past weekend turned out to be a University of Charleston alumni weekend for me. As seen in my Facebook posts, I spent time with five different friends from college! On Friday, I met up with Mary Rothlisberger Ferrebee (Class of 1981) and checked out the vintage hydroplane boats in her hometown of New Martinsville (photo 1).
During the day on Saturday, we had a great time with Eric Fletcher (‘80) and his granddaughters riding the railbikes (photos 2 & 3). Saturday evening we enjoyed seeing Ray Singleton (‘79) perform with his jazz group.
The forth photo in this post shows that Anna (David's wife) and I met with Kim Cavender Dillon (‘80) and her husband Greg Dillon for a delicious Sunday brunch. We always have a good time talking with them!
Finally, on Sunday afternoon at the historic Alban theater in downtown St. Albans, I was able to meet up with Guy Nelson for the first time since we graduated in 1980 (Photo 5). He and I were not necessarily close friends during our four years of college, but everyone knows everyone on a small campus.

That is one of the great things about attending UC Alumni events, such as the Homecoming Weekend beginning September 20 this year. Even if you may not have been best buddies during those college years, we all knew each other—and we have all survived our lives, often with interesting twists and turns along the way. We always have a great time when we reunite at Homecoming! I hope to see many of you on campus again this fall.

We can't get enough of these fly by visits from our Golden Eagles!! You guys are really out and about this summer!

This week, Bill Talbott and his wife, Charlene, included a visit to campus as part of their grand tour of the eastern part of the country. They left their home in Nebraska ten days ago and have made stops to visit family and "old stomping grounds".
Bill is a 1965 Morris Harvey College grad who had a career with Eastman Kodak Company as a computer programmer. Before finishing his degree at MHC, he married his late wife and fellow alumni, Linda Mullens Talbott ('65). Together, they raised three children in upstate New York.

It was lovely to have them both in the Erickson Alumni Center and we wish them safe travels!

Receiving a white coat is a memorable experience in a UC student's journey toward becoming a pharmacist. Help us give our incoming class a warm welcome to the UC School of Pharmacy family by covering the cost of a white coat, and more. 🦅The summertime alumni visits continue.
Brian Hendricks ('11) graduated UC with a bachelor's degree in biology. He expanded his education with a master's degree in entomology from the University of Tennessee and a doctorate degree in epidemiology from West Virginia University.

Brian has recently moved into a new career role as the Executive Director of the Center for Rural and Community Health at WV School of Osteopathic Medicine . He does a lot of work with grant writing and is passionate about improving public health in rural communities.

He lives in the Lewisburg/Covington area with his wife, Kassey, and their pig, Sophia.🐷

Marcie McGowan Ryan ('69 and Delta Zeta sorority member) and her friend, Denny, stopped by on their way home to Florida.

Marcie majored in music and social science and had a wonderful teaching career in Jacksonville, FL. She is now retired and loves to help others with her therapy pups!

It was a pleasure showing them what's new on campus and walking down memory lane!

Don and Peggy Casavant and their youngest daughter, Kristin, are on a "Bucket List" tour which included a stop in Charleston. Don is a '66 Morris Harvey College graduate who went on to Valley Forge Military Academy and served in the US Army.
He then returned to Connecticut to have a successful career running the family welding business, Royal Welding Company.
Don and Peggy now live in Diamond Point, NY. They have three daughters and seven grandchildren and are enjoying retirement.
We wish them safe travel as their next stops include Valley Forge and Fort Knox.
