Hi everyone! Here's another hair tip to keep that hair healthy:
It's hot!..and humid and braids are the solution many of you are running to. And with school starting soon many moms are looking to get their daughters that "get up and go" no maintenance hairdo. Well if you decide to go that route...I know its hot but PLEASE PLEASE don't pull those braids up on the first day. This is when a majority of the "edge breakage" takes place. Nape hair (edge of the back) grows down on the majority of us...and pulling it up against the grain is a big NO NO. And those front edges are usually braided really tight (baby hair braided and all)...there is no "wiggle room" so any slight tension....and SNAP goes those edges! So ladies.....wait at least 1 to 2 weeks (root growth provides wiggle room) before pulling those braids up. And MOISTURIZE with a water-based cream BEFORE you pull them up** Dry hair Is fragile***Instead..when braids are freshly done..wear a low, nape ponytail or let them free fall to the back, lightly twisting ends then loosely clamp them up with a butterfly hairclamp. Your edges will thank you for it!

Hair Tip: During these winter months be sure to continue to drink plenty of water. Also, working a lightweight cream moisturizer throughout the hair before you wrap it at night will help it to stay shiny and well moisturized throughout the next day. This will also keep it protected from the cold, harsh weather conditions.

Healthy Hair Tip: Ethnic hair loves moisture. Your moisture should come from your conditioning treatments from the salon. Styling aids do not give your hair all the moisture it needs. Styling aids JUST helps to MAINTAIN salon treatments. Visit your stylist regularly for treatments on a regular basis. It will keep your hair shiny, bouncy and full of life!

Question? If your personal trainer told you to eat healthy in order to get the results you wanted...would you go and eat unhealthy foods but still expect to get positive results....NO! Then why in the world do people go to the hair salon....get instructions to achieve the results that they desire.....then go home and do NONE of what they were told...and sometimes the exact OPPOSITE....then when their hair TELLS on them (because they will swear up and down that they have been doing what you told them to do...but as a stylist...trust me...we know)...they come back asking you ,"WHY??"

Unlike food, toothpaste etc. that has departments that oversee these products to make sure they are safe for the public...the hair industry has NO REGULATORS. I mean, we have state board that comes around to businesses but I'm not talking about businesses...I'm talking about the products we use on our hair as well as these methods that originated from who knows where! So take it from me, I am certified and qualified with 18 years under my belt. Always use wisdom when it comes to trying a new method that involves adding ANYTHING false to your face/hair. Anything you add that is false WILL ALWAYS come with a side effect. The side effect may range from SLIGHT to SERVERE depending upon how it's done and how long it's left in the hair. Consult a professional b/c you can usually tell whether a product is worth while from the ingredients while a non-cosmetologist will only read the front label.....
