I often have clients come in for a massage session wearing their shoulders up to their ears. I immediately put my hands on their shoulders, their shoulders drop. During the session, I noticed their trapezius muscles were tight, and their rhomboids had knots that were painful to the touch. If this sounds like you come in today for a session and get relief.

April is Parkinsons Awareness month.
Over the past 13 years working as a massage therapist, I have worked with several individuals that were inflicted with Parkinson's disease. Most of the chief complaints were leg cramps, neck, and shoulder stiffness. I found when applying firm, and slow pressure muscle twitches, jerks, and twisting movements in their limbs and head became less frequent and later in the massage some ceased all together. Within a few moments their body becomes more relaxed. This is why I love my job.
Research suggests that massage can help to relieve the muscle stiffness and rigidity that is often found in Parkinson's, (parkinsonseurope.org) by increasing blood flow to the brain, decrease muscle stiffness, promote relaxation, and increase mobility in some people with Parkinson's disease. Research has shown that massage can also improve gait speed by 10%. (parkinsonsresource.org).

Massage In Stroke Patients Have Been Shown To:
Improve Mobility – specific nerve centres may be stimulated using acupressure in massage
Relieve Fatigue – increases the levels of energy by releasing muscle tension and reducing the stress hormone cortisol.
Help Insomnia – activates parasympathetic nervous system responsible for allowing your body to relax.
Improve Circulation – good circulation stimulated by massage delivers oxygen-rich blood to damaged, tense muscles
Decreases Pain and Cramps – Increased circulation can also help alleviate cramps
Alleviate Symptoms of Depression – physically stimulating the nerve receptors of the nervous system causes a release of the mood-lifting chemicals serotonin or dopamine into the body.
The day to day quality of a stroke survivor's life may be improved by massage.
Remember to correct your posture as you start your work week.
Over the past two plus years I have noticed a major increase in the number of clients that come to me with lower back, shoulder, and neck pain or tightness most often caused by bad posture. Particularly from looking down at their phones or sitting slouched at their computers, as well as carrying heavy bags or luggage. Over time posture related issues can lead to headaches, carpel tunnel syndrome, chronic back pain, digestive issues, breathing issues, poor balance, rolled shoulders, hunchback (kyphosis), forward head posture, sway back (lordosis), pelvic tilt, even adult scoliosis.
Massage helps by bringing unbalanced muscles back to a healthy state, allowing all muscles to work together in a balanced way to support your body, head, and neck. The good news is that through massage, correcting the effects of poor posture can be a relaxing experience. Massage brings muscles back into balance by increasing circulation and reducing pressure on sensitive nerves. Relaxed, pain free muscles allow your body to position themselves in a more natural and correct posture.
Say" I love you" with the gift of relaxation.
