Out now! Limited Sphere from Patois Counselors //

For Limited Sphere, Patois Counselors relax their grip on the tense post-punk that they mastered long ago. Songs like “Fountain Of UHF,” “Serious Rider” and “Ranking Set” still touch on this style, but now White’s voice shares the air with woodwind instruments that add even more depth and texture to his songs. The effortlessly groovy, vaguely loungey “Marge Attack” conjures fond memories of early Stereolab, while “Return To Sensitivity” evokes the magic hour of twilight, insects buzzing and zipping through dusky sky. Foregrounding the haze and mist in these songs, you can detect traces of Eno’s Another Green World in Limited’s atmoSphere, particularly on the closing “Cathy Music.”

For their third proper album, Patois Counselors have crafted another seamless set of songs for practical fantasists and head-in-the-clouds cynics. The sphere outlined here may be limited, but the boundaries have been expanded significantly.

Jim Saah’s book, “In My Eyes,” (Photographs 1982-1997) features hundreds of impressive (and never-before-seen) photos of punk and hardcore legends such as: Fugazi, Minor Threat, Void, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, Jawbox, Government Issue, The Faith, Iron Cross and more. But Saah’s musical palette wasn’t just confined to punk rock, as evidenced by the inclusion of The Cramps, The Pixies, Lou Reed, Guided by Voices, Fishbone, Wilco et al. The hardcover book closes with several intimate interviews between Saah and longtime friends/fans including Ian MacKaye, J. Robbins, Jon Langford, artist Shepard Fairey, and photographers Cynthia Connolly and Patrick Graham.

In My Eyes: Photographs 1982-1997 is by far the most comprehensive photographic music document of its kind, vividly capturing the essence of a time and a place—with all of punk’s original passion, energy and total abandon still very much intact within its pages.

Yesterday was a bit of a slow day and our friend and customer came by and brought us a special record. He had asked us last week if we wanted him to take a record to the Vince Staples show to get signed and I said sure but didn’t end up happening. He went to the show and got his own records signed but also had a copy of Taylor Swift’s 1989 with him and as a goof asked them to sign it as well. So yesterday he returned with this LP signed by

I took some pictures and posted it yesterday for fun but someone actually bought it. So I made a promise that if that actually happened we would donate the money plus a bit more to Beloved Asheville to help our neighbors in need. In Charlotte we were very lucky to have been spared the damage from Helene. Donate and help if you can as it is a long road back to normal for many families and businesses. Thanks for your support.
