We are thrilled to partner with On Our Own of Charlottesville to offer fresh foods (dairy, eggs, meat, fruits and veggies) as well as non-perishable staples to the On Our Own community.
Did you know the EFN is run almost entirely by volunteers?
Our 19 hands-on, hard-working Board members provide our leadership and direction, while our 100+ trained volunteers capably handle every aspect of our daily operations, such as shelving groceries, packing food bags, answering phones and taking orders, and distributing food to clients. We are grateful for these hard-working individuals who give so generously of their time and talents, and allow us to operate so efficiently.
Here are a few photos from our recent volunteer appreciation picnic. Kudos to our picnic planning committee, Anne Ribble, Carolyn George, Kathy Paulson, and Kim Hammond, for doing such a great job with the food and decorations!

Our Story
The mission of the Emergency Food Network is to provide food for three days of balanced meals, on the same day requested, to individuals and families in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
We receive no government funding; our operation depends exclusively on the generous support of individuals, schools, businesses, area churches, and civic groups. Our operating expenses are minimal, so approximately 94 percent of every dollar donated goes directly to purchase food.
A well-organized group of dedicated and caring volunteers acquires the food, stocks the shelves, takes orders by phone, fills orders and delivers them daily to distribution sites. An average commitment of three hours per month is all that is needed from a volunteer to keep the Emergency Food Bank running-smoothly. A twenty-three member volunteer board of directors oversees the entire operation.
How it Works
Our clients call our office in the morning between 9:00 and noon every weekday to place an “order” that they will pick up later on that same day, between 1:30 and 3:30. New clients simply register with us by giving us their name and address and the last four digits of their Social Security number, and the same information for every member of their family, including the ages of their children. We ask for no financial information.
Our clients can be any resident of Charlottesville or Albemarle County. There are no financial requirements and we ask no personal questions.
