What is Carrickmacross lace? It is a simple process of sandwiching netting and stitching around and on it. If you've always thought about attending and taking a class (or two or three...), now is the time! A few spaces are left in some of the weekend classes, so this is the perfect time to jump into the fun!
Held on Friday and Saturday, "Cotton Candy" is a pink satin batiste confection lesson in smocking to the shoulder. Featured in size 1 or 2, the class begins with pleating the interfaced dress front and smocking the bodice. Skills the first day include learning to keep the smocking even and symmetrical. The second day of class will focus on stitching curving vines, leaves, and silk ribbon flowers on the pleated fabric of the bodice and repeating these stitches on the sleeves, framed with gathered lace edging. Embroidery stitches you will learn include whipped backstitch, whipped stem stitch, loop stitch, lazy daisy and colonial knots. The kit is brimming with satin batiste, lace edging, Swiss beading, satin ribbon, embroidery floss, silk ribbon, mother-of-pearl buttons, and needles. The dress pattern, smocking design, and complete illustrated instructions are included.
