TRASH AND RECYCLING: The town will be picking up trash on regularly scheduled days this week.

For those residents with Monday pick up that were not picked up last week, your recyclables will be picked up tomorrow. Anyone with a Monday recycling day will have their recyclables collected tomorrow.

Here are the expected snow amounts for today.

Please use caution while driving through the south part of town. Highway crews continue to work on the snow plowing and snow removal efforts.

CHEEKTOWAGA DRIVING BAN UPDATE: Cheektowaga driving ban will end at 6:00am 1/18/24, in conjunction with Lancaster (town and village, West Seneca, and Depew.

The driving ban will remain in effect until at least 6am tomorrow. Elected officials are going to evaluate the road and weather conditions prior to 6am and decide if the ban will be lifted or remain in effect.

The travel ban remains in effect for Cheektowaga until possibly 10am tomorrow (Jan 15).

The large amounts of lake effect snow continue to make clearing the roads difficult.

Sanitation pick up for tomorrow is cancelled. If you normally have garbage pick up on Mondays, it will be picked up on Monday January 22nd.

Please continue to do your part in keeping our emergency personnel safe by remaining at home until the ban is lifted.

Sanitation pick up for Monday 1/15/24 is cancelled. If you have garbage or recycling pick up on Monday, it will be picked up on Monday January 22nd. We will resume regular pick up on Tuesday through the rest of the week.

Supervisor Nowak has issued a Local State of Emergency for the Town of Cheektowaga. This is in effect beginning at 3pm today.

The Walden Galleria Mall is closing at 7pm today.

All activities at the Town rink have been cancelled for today (1/13) and tomorrow (1/14).

Our Town Highway Department is out treating the roads with salt and will transition to snow plowing when it is needed.

There is a winter storm warning in effect for WNY beginning at 10am Saturday and lasting until 7am Monday.

This weather event will produce wind, rain, a thunderstorm, snow showers and eventually lake effect snow.

We are expected to see significant lake effect snowfall this weekend that could reach 2 feet between Saturday night through Monday morning.

Please see important weather updates that have been provided to us from the US National Weather Service Buffalo NY. for tonight through Saturday.

As more information develops, we will continue to share the information received from the National Weather Service to our community.

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE:

As of 12:30pm, NYSEG is still working on restoring power to 214 Cheektowaga customers. These cases are still being investigated and crews are at work addressing the remaining outages.

01/10/2024

As of 8am, NYSEG reports that 2,854 customers in Cheektowaga are without power. There are crews assigned and investigating the causes of the Losson Road area outages. There are investigations underway for all other outages. Currently, there is no estimated time of power restoration.

National Grid reports some without power in the Cleveland Hill neighborhood. Crews are assigned to that outage and as of 8:30am the estimated power restoration time is 10:00am.

Erie County Road Restriction:
The portion of Como Park Blvd. (CR-523) from Wyndmoor Ct. to Autumn Lane will have a single lane road restriction. This restriction will begin on January 1 and has an estimated completion of January 26 or until complete. The restriction will be daily from 7am to 5pm. This restriction is for the purpose of installing fiber optics via directional drilling. Greenlight Networks LLC will be performing the work.
