Bob is more than a fixture here. In 1983, he came to work with us and started scraping barnacles and painting boat bottoms then transferred to the paint shop. He's the best in the business with refinishing especially applying varnish and deck paints. He has good taste in music, too - the classics! Cheers to Bob for his dedication and care to so many customers!

Levi is sought after for his attention to detail and care with each job. He provides quality on every job, a real perfectionist with decades of skill of refinishing and touching up.

Couple of new faces you'll see who are a great addition to our team. Danny, training to operate our well maintained travelift and Lamonte who never misses a beat with taking care of the underwater gear and boat bottom cleaning and painting. Great people ready to help you with your boat.,

Have your summer plans changed and looking for a safe home for your boat while you take care of business. We have slips available in protected waters and close proximity to Norfolk International Airport. AYB welcomes any special projects you need taking care of, too!

A lot of moving boats and parts at AYB. We love this time of year with the migration of cruisers stopping in for service or just making a quick stop to say hello and provision. We're thankful for the business and we enjoy meeting new faces and seeing the ambassadors of the waterway that make AYB their traditional stop and home during the winter months.

Awesome group of boater friends from all parts of the eastern seaboard including Canada and the pacific side of the country for our last Pop Up Happy Hour sponsored and hosted by the first class team, Virginia Water Tourism Corp, GoChesapeake. Thank you so much for your generous time and gracious display of delicious food and spirits. You put on a top shelf event to welcome everyone to our Chesapeake community. Also, we’d like to give Jeremy Jackson Band a huge shout out for the great tunes that everyone enjoyed!! Thank you Dawn Matheson and team for your vision and generosity!! We look forward to the Spring events!!

Great Bridge Locks - Repair Complete - Back to Normal Operation
*This cancels MSIB 365-23*
Effective 1600 on 16 August 2023, The Great Bridge Locks, located along the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal of the Atlantic Intracoastal Water Way, will return to normal every hour on the hour locking schedule. The modified locking schedule due to a repair operation will no longer be in effect.

We fix all shapes and sizes.

We are deeply saddened to learn the passing of one of our former employees who was loved by all. Bill Early was a gentle soul and would do anything for you and was a talented brush guy (paint/refinisher). He was also one heck of a fisherman. We’re sorry to hear this news and we send our condolences to Bill’s family and wish them peace and comfort during this difficult time. RIP Bill Early, our friend!

Super proud of our team at AYB - our shops are strong and the work is so diverse and specialized. We have a number of projects in the works from full refinishing jobs to fuel tank installations and entire sportfish cockpit refit, and more... Today, the yard gathered for a retirement celebration for Bruce Cates. It's hard for us to say, retirement, because he is such an icon, institution here.
In a nut shell, Bruce Cates knows paint! He began his career at AYB in 1981 with a "can do attitude" and brought the paint shop to the next level. Bruce gave AYB the confidence to refinish boats with a spray gun when Imron (Dupont branded paint) was the paint of choice. He elevated that shop to new heights and became a trusted leader in the industry. He helped build a strong team of competent refinishers. We're so proud of you, Bruce!
We're not saying good bye to Bruce at all. We know we'll be seeing him later :)
Thank you, Bruce, for your dedication, superior attitude, and quality care and service all these "42" YEARS. You've been a gift to AYB and to the boating community!! Godspeed my friend! Your friends at AYB!
