Here we are w**ding cockscombs, the field also includes toreadors. This field should start to bloom in about two weeks. Right now we have a smaller field with toreadors and wheat celosia that we are picking from. Seeds for these plants are about the size of a small pinhead. Even though, we have been farming for over 30 years it still amazes me that you can get such a crop from such a tiny little seed.
Sharing the morning with my granddaughter, as she smells and picks the lavender. Also, walking through rows and rows of Larkspur.
Coming to red Bank tomorrow with lavender, bouquets, Sunflowers, Larkspur, and Feverview. Hope to see you.

First bunch of Peonies today!!!! The first peonies to bloom are Red Charm and what a beautie it is. When you pick this variety you must make sue the bud is soft by gently squeezing it, if it is hard the floer will not open
Checked the Peonies today after 3 days of rain and wind. They are still standing a little crooked but will straighten with the sun.
Hesperies - sweet rocket is just starting to bloom.
We spent two days before the rain planting almost 2 acres of dahlias. It was a mad, rushed to get the fields ready, marked and the holes prepared before we planted. In this house for always watching the weather preparing. If we are going to get rain we plant. New seedlings and flowers prefer a rain to overhead watering. We were so lucky to get the rain Saturday night into Sunday morning. It was the perfect rain.
Can you see the color some of the early peonies actually showing a little color. At this rate, it looks like we will definitely have them by Mother’s Day.
They are looking good we’ve hoed them, fertilize them and are taking good care of them. Stay tuned for more pictures as they progress along.

Take a look at the Peonies now. They are really growing especially with this warm weather. Every time I see them this time of year I think they look like little trees. This is the early variety of peonies – this one happens to be Coral charm. we always hope to get them by Mother’s Day, but you never know. Some years we missed them by a couple days. With the warm weather, they may bloom by Mother’s Day.
Hoping that rain will come today. Planting neon, dianthus status and some straw flowers. Also fertilizing perennial flowers that have overwintered. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this evening and tonight for rain.
Preparing the Lisianthus greenhouse. Put down black mulch for w**d control.
Continuing to trim our winter berries. They are looking good, getting them ready for picking in October and November. This time of year there is a lot of maintenance on the farm - trimming. fertilizing and caring for all of the shrubs. Preparing them for summer and late fall..

Our Story
During the 2020 season, Alan's Flower Farm is growing fresh vegetables starting with lettuce, mixed greens, kale, summer squash, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, string beans, eggplant, melons, peaches and more in addition to growing New Jersey’s finest cut flowers. Given the current situation, our family business is adapting to the change by offering a pre-packed weekly box. We are working to provide you with the freshest produce throughout the season, and we hope you will support us. No Farmers, No Food has never been more relevant! When you purchase from us, you support local agriculture and a family business.
Alan's Flower Farm grows a variety of cut flowers that include Sunflowers, Dahlias, Peonies, Lavender, Hydrangeas, Mixed Bouquets and additional summer annual flowers in Allentown and Chesterfield, New Jersey.
In 1990, we moved to Chesterfield and started our farming business that grew over the years with the help of our children. In the beginning we farmed 35 acres but this has grown to 165 acres. 125 of those acres are devoted to growing annuals, perennials, flowering shrubs and branches all for cut flower production.
Our fields contain a wide variety of flowers harvested daily for all occasions. They are in full bloom from mid-May through October, and our most popular items are Sunflowers, Mixed Bouquets, and Dahlias.
Sunflowers are harvested from July to October showing their bright color. No flower can lift someone's spirits quite like sunflowers. With brilliant yellow petals, sunflowers have an unmistakable sun-like appearance that has made them a crowd favorite, especially in the summer months. Our fields are in bloom with Sunflowers all summer and into the fall.
Mixed Bouquets are what set us apart. From June through October we create unique bouquets that change from week to week. Each bouquet is individually assembled for perfection.
Dahlias make their sensational appearance in mid August and show their glory from mid September until November. They are one of the most spectacular flowers. Dahlias come in a great variety of sizes and colors.
