Help Aurora Beat Brain Cancer

On March 14, Aurora Romano was diagnosed with three Optic Pathway Gliomas which is a type of brain tumor that forms along the optic nerve pathway. The team at Children’s worked quickly to determine the root cause, performing CT’s, MRIs, and eye exams. She was diagnosed the next day with three Optic Pathway Gliomas. Aurora had a port placed the next day and began her first round of chemo treatment on March 17. The current treatment plan is for twenty-four rounds of chemo within the next year. She was released to go home after her first round of chemo. She has and incredibly long road ahead.
Aurora’s father, Joe Romano, is a paramedic with Lower Valley Ambulance Service. Aurora, Joe and Jen are the reason we are hosting this Spaghetti dinner. No child should have to go through what Aurora is bravely battling, let alone her parents. We ask that you come out to support this little girl and her family as they fight this battle.
Aurora is an amazing, energetic, spunky three-year-old whose favorite things are Lightning McQueen, Trolls, french fries, ice cream, and bouncing on her trampoline.

There will be a limited number of free bike helmets and a chance to win one of 6 bikes donated by Lower Valley Ambulance! Refreshments will be provided by Representative Mandy Steele’s office.

We are at Tour Ed Mine until 4pm for their autism friendly touch a truck event!

Tonight our crew got to watch some boxers go at it at the Syria Shriners. We got some awesome photos of the matches and some great photos of the boxers getting some TLC from our fantastic crew members Patty and Brianna. Nice work ladies!

What an amazing two months this has been here at Lower Valley Ambulance Service. Starting our spring PR events off with opening day at LVLL touch a truck event followed by Community Safety, Health & Wellness event in Aspinwall with our colleagues Foxwall. Such a great turnout even with the rain.

We followed that event up with a Community Touch A Truck in Emmerling Park in Indiana Township where we met lots of little ones and got to see them enjoy all the big trucks.

We also got to finally introduce our newest edition to the community on Memorial Day when we were invited to Verona’s Memorial Day Parade. What a fun and exciting time our crews had, thank you for the invite!

Our next events are coming up this weekend when we will be at Tour Ed Mine at another special event, Autism Touch A Truck, Saturday June 1, 2024 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Come out to support a wonderful support group!

But if you can’t make it Saturday come on down to the Strawberry Festival on Sunday from 3 pm to 7 pm in Cheswick. The festival will be held on Spruce Street between Hill and Highland Ave. this is a family friendly event so come out and enjoy some great food, music, kids games, and seeing some neighbors you might not have seen in a while!

This year's EMS Week's theme is "Honoring our past. Forging our future." This is also the 50th anniversary of EMS Week, originally declared by President Ford in 1974. Lower Valley Ambulance Service was founded in 1973; and we'd like to take this week to recognize all past, present, and future EMS Providers. It's not an easy job, and the field has many challenges we will collectively need to overcome in the coming years, like employee retention and cash flow, but we're confident that with our amazing employees, our supportive municipal partners, and our amazing communities, we'll be here for decades to come.

To everyone who's tirelessly worked on the trucks, volunteered on our Board of Directors, and supported us at the municipal level over the years; Thank you.

Today we welcomed the newest addition to our fleet, 2024 Medix, Medic 153. This unit will be stocked up & equipped and serving the residents of our communities in the very near future.

A Tornado Watch is in effect for our entire service area (and all of Western Pennsylvania) until 2AM.

A WATCH means all the ingredients for a weather event (in this case, tornados), will be present. A WARNING will be issued when a tornado is imminent or is happening already in a given area.

Take this time to be alert, monitor weather apps, channels, etc, and have a plan in the event of a warning. Stay safe!

Multiple flood and flash flood warnings remain in effect until this evening. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles. Turn around, don't drown!

This does not constitute the second round of storms expected this evening: stay alert for severe weather threats.

A big upgrade to the Severe Weather Outlook for tomorrow (Tuesday). This is a level 4/5 (Moderate) risk for much of Ohio, and a 3/5 (Enhanced) risk into West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania. All modes of severe weather (tornadoes, large hail, damaging wind) will be possible tomorrow late afternoon and evening, with higher probabilities the farther west you're located. Stay tuned for further updates!

Now is the time to make sure you have a way (ideally multiple ways) to receive watches and warnings for your area so you can stay weather aware. NOAA Weather Radios and trusted phone apps are two great methods.

Happy Easter! This holiday weekend, we'd like to thank all of our employees working this, and every, holiday. In particular we'd like to recognize Ethan Puskas for obtaining their Advanced EMT certification. Congratulations!

Our life saving EMS providers are going to go under if we don’t do something to help. We have got to turn this around, and fast!

A while in the making, we're proud to present our 50th anniversary challenge coins! These coins were designed by FirstLine Consulting Services, which is owned by one of our employees, and are scheduled to arrive by the end of the year!

These coins will first and foremost be going out to top donors in our upcoming capital fund drive campaign as a token of our appreciation - but there's a decent chance we'll be selling them directly to interested collectors later!

Today crews attended a toy drive Touch-a-truck at the Harmar target. It's always nice to mingle with the community! It was a great event for a great cause and we thank Towsfortots Pgh for the invite.
