I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend, and found some luck in the arena!

The lights have specific wavelengths that are absorbed by a photo acceptor within the mitochondria of the body’s cells. The energy (photons) from the lights increases the energy in the cell, speeding up the healing process. The red & infrared lights have wavelengths absorbed by different depths of tissue, allowing it to be beneficial for multiple things. The red light is effective for treating wounds, infections, and stimulating acupuncture points. The infrared light has a deeper pe*******on, causing it to be more beneficial for soft tissue injuries, joints and muscles.

𝙵𝚄𝙽 𝙵𝙰𝙲𝚃 𝙵𝚁𝙸𝙳𝙰𝚈
- ꜰɪʙʀᴏᴛɪᴄ ᴏꜱꜱɪꜰʏɪɴɢ ᴍʏᴏᴘᴀᴛʜʏ -

Fibrotic Ossifying Myopathy is the formation of fibrotic & ossifying lesions caused by trauma to the semitendinosus, semimembranosus and biceps femoris muscles. FOM is commonly seen in horses that have a “sliding stop” motion, such as reiners, cutters, and other rodeo type horses. These horses are more prone to an inflammatory reaction that leads to the creation of the lesions.

When the lesions are created, muscle fibers have a loss in striation, and the connective tissue has been replaced by osteoblasts. The lesions cause a restriction of the movement of these muscles, causing an abnormal gait. The muscle is unable to constrict correctly, so the cranial phase of the stride is shortened and the caudal phase of the stride is lengthened. In other words, the leg is under the body for a shorter amount of time than it is extended behind the horse.

FOM can be seen by watching the gait of the horse, and there is typically a “firmness” in the muscle. However, it is a mechanical lameness:
there may be no pain, just an effect on the horse’s gait.

Winsdown Lilac Lane, 𝘓𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘤, is a 14 year old American Saddlebred owned by myself. She has excelled as a lesson horse, English/Western show horse, and trail riding horse. Lilac loves being around people, having her picture taken, eating apples and carrots, and seeing her little “sister” Bentley! Lilac is always so happy when Emily comes to align her, as it makes everything about her way of movement so much easier and more fluid!

I am possibly planning a trip to Missouri in October if there is enough interest. This would be about 6-8 weeks before the show Dec 1-3, and a good way to keep your horse in tip top shape!

Last night was a ɢʀᴇᴀᴛ night to work on both a new horse and a repeat client!

Vegas was certainly happy after his massage last night! Because he is not quite ready for an adjustment, massage is a great way to help those muscles stay relaxed and help with pain management. Thank you Bella Lowe for having me out!

Torch, as usual, loved his adjustments. The expressive horses are always a nice sight to see, especially before a show. Thank you Parlena Zelinski for having me out again!
