LCSD1 Board Watch
Holding Trustees' public comments, actions, and votes accountable to statute, policy, and law.
So, what do we know? One last look. One last time.
Chairman Bolin will soon be former Trustee Bolin, as he is replaced by soon-to-be-Trustee Cook.
Two of the favored candidates by nationally-funded PACs were defeated - fortunately for all of our students.
The majority will be determined by soon-to-be-appointed-Trustee Burden, but it will likely be a 4-3 majority regardless. This also means that the new chair will likely have to participate in votes, unlike Chairman Bolin who tried to avoid taking a stance as long as possible. Although, watch for some sneaky moves in choosing the next speaker.
Trustees Smith, Klaassen, and Humphrey will undoubtedly keep lying about our students, our teachers, and they will likely avoid doing anything to help our students. Though, with the MCER report and potential changes to school boundaries, they will have to do something at some point.
Trustees Hinkle and Ashby will likely continue to fight for teachers, for students, and for the educational needs of ALL students in our district.
We will have to watch our two new Trustees to see what they do.
I will keep watching - I owe it to my daughters to know what a rogue political majority might do to sabotage their education.
But, I can no longer post. I'm sorry. We have now entered a phase in American history - many would argue "re-entered" - that makes criticizing elected officials a potentially dangerous act. So, it's something best reserved for those serious moments of need. That time will undoubtedly come - possibly sooner rather than later.
For now, though, it's time to focus on my family, on my job, and on my own work.
You can still watch, though. Everything I used can be found at the link below. Keep speaking as you see fit. Keep holding the Trustees accountable to the educational needs of ALL students, not just a few.
And, hug your kids just a little tighter tonight - and tomorrow, and the next day.
Maybe, they'll be the generation to actually help our country achieve its ideals. Maybe. As long as we can provide them with a quality education.
I close with words from Washington's Farewell Address: "Promote then, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge. In proportion as the structure of a government gives force to public opinion, it is essential that public opinion should be enlightened."
Public education is one of the greatest goods in our country - a public and free education for ALL students. We must continue to fight against its destruction - even if that fight takes different forms over the next 4 years.
Board of Trustees - Laramie County School District 1 TIMOTHY BOLIN – CHAIRMANSummer 2024 Board Chair Report This is great time of the year in Cheyenne with long sun-filled days and the excitement of Cheyenne Frontier Days. I am looking forward to helping with the Challenge Rodeo before the Rodeo on Wednesday and Thursday. This as a great opportunity...
This will likely hold.
Cook, Ashby, Smith.
The majority swings on the person they appointed to the South Triad, the one who has lived in the South Triad for less than a decade.
And, I am done. I’m sorry.
I learned today what we are as a country. I can no longer speak. My voice is gone.
My daughters’ lives are on the line.
I will protect their education since no one else will.
I will protect their lives since no one else will.
I will stand for them since no one else will.
But, standing for them means being there for them silently.
Since this community, this country, won’t be there for them.
So, good bye.
Protect your own children.
We learned tonight that that no one else will.
We learned tonight what we are as a country.
Believe it. When a country tells you who it is, believe it.
And protect those you love.
Because, clearly, no one else in this country will.
