Just like a ton of other environmental orgs, every day is at Enweave …but that means today is a chance to do something a little different. With inspo from and our team’s reading of , we are launching our first annual series.
Instead of promoting sales or releasing new products, we’ll be using our platform to amplify the perspectives of the environmentalists and justice advocates whose work is paramount to the future that businesses like ours try to envision.
For each of the next seven days, you’ll see a post introducing the org, and then check out our story to see how they’re making the world more just!
Enweave stands with the AAPI community and condemns all forms of Asian hate. We remember Xiaojie Tan, 49, Daoyou Feng, 44, Delaina Ashley Yaun, 33, Paul Andre Michels, 54, Julie Park, Hyeon Jeong Park, and those whose names have not been released.
We want to work with businesses of all sizes, not just the green brands you already know and love. Interested in selling your products on Enweave? Get in contact with [email protected]. Know a green business whose products you want to see on our site? Tag them below!

“Our environment is just as much about the climate as it is the world that has been built around us that affects the air we breathe, the safety of our streets, the quality of our homes and the prices of our energy bills.”
-U.S. Rep Cori Bush
'Environmental justice is racial justice': Bush calls for environmental racism study to direct federal aid Study would create a national database including a report that found Black St. Louisans are exposed to far greater environmental risks than white ones
Enweave uses a no-profit model, which means your subscription fee goes right back into our mission and running the marketplace. Learn more below!
Ready to get the most green for your green? 💸 Enweave uses a subscription-based model like Netflix or Spotify, where a monthly fee gives you access to green products at the lowest price possible. Dip your toe in with a one month subscription for $8. Go a little deeper with a three month subscription for $7 a month. Or take the full plunge (and get the best deal) by subscribing for a full year for $5/ month!
*Our platform is for everyone. We try to keep our regular prices as low as possible, but we’ll always be happy to grant reduced-price subscriptions to low-income households. If you have interest in this option, email us at [email protected]
Introducing our “Shop by Feature” option! You can now shop products from 75+ categories like Fair Trade, Plastic-Free, BIPOC-Owned, Woman-Owned, Organic, Cruelty-Free, and so much more! Visit Enweave.org to try it out and learn more about our criteria.
Enweave honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by celebrating the achievements of Black leaders in social and environmental movements across the U.S.— but just as importantly— by recognizing how much work is left to be done. We would like to highlight some of the great organizations that are helping us to grow, learn, and better fight for a more equitable future.
We want to push progress towards a more equitable economy, but in the meantime, we are operating within an inherently inequitable one. We have an obligation to invest in the communities who have faced that inequity, and One United makes it incredibly easy to . We have enjoyed service that is far more personal than other big banks, and in the era of COVID, it’s an excellent option because it operates entirely online.
Buying green is great, buying black is better. We Buy Black is an online marketplace that carries exclusively Black-owned brands and it’s an excellent choice for finding everything you need. Their expansive catalogue includes all kinds of wonderful sustainable and zero-waste alternatives crafted by Black entrepreneurs!
People for Community Recovery is one of our favorite organizations here in Chicago, is nationally recognized for its environmental justice advocacy, and was founded by the Mother of the Environmental Justice Movement, Hazel M. Johnson. Next week, PCR will be hosting a conversation with icon Dr. Robert Bullard, Father of the EJ Movement.
Probably the best thing to come out of 2020 is the foundation of Intersectional Environmentalist. Like Dr. Bullard and Mrs. Johnson before them, its founders are creating the next stage of the modern environmental movement: Intersectional Environmentalism. Their comprehensive Topics and Communities pages have been a go-to resource for learning what we can do to help extinguish oppressive systems, keep social justice at the forefront of our environmental efforts, and allow intersectionality to guide our vision.
(Enweave does not have any current affiliation with these organizations, we just want to highlight them!)
Meet the team! Up next: Jacob Huskey. Jacob knows that even when you make it your life’s work, its damn near impossible to keep the planet at the front of your mind. A healthy, sustainable life shouldn’t be a privilege for those who have time and money to make changes— it should be a right. With a little imagination and a purpose that isn’t profits, we can make it happen.
Meet the team! First up: Vanessa Chung. As our Sustainable Brands Intern, Vanessa will be working to find and fill product gaps with a diverse supply chain made up of BIPOC business owners and entrepreneurs. In turn, she hopes to study how this diversification can make sustainable living more broadly accessible for BIPOC customers when they can see themselves represented in the brands/products being offered. We are so excited to have her on the Enweave team!
If earlier today you received a message about payment methods not being available in your area, the problem has been resolved! Somebody forgot to toggle the on/off switch before launch... 😉

Every year voting is a civic duty. This year it’s a moral obligation. Vote for continued democracy. Vote for the women in your life, for LGBTQA folks, for people of color, for people with medical vulnerabilities, for an inhabitable planet, for the people whose lives, safety, and livelihoods depend on it. Vote for the person who doesn’t hurt those you love.
Today is the FINAL day of our campaign, but far more importantly, it is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. In lieu of final day discounts, we are donating 50% of everything contributed today to the Indigenous Environmental Network. https://igg.me/at/enweave
The environmental community (and anyone who breathes air or drinks water for that matter) owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Indigenous Peoples around the world for their contributions to humanity’s ability to understand, protect, and connect with our natural environment. While most of us are still trying to figure it out, First Peoples have done the work of protecting our Earth since the start of human existence. And while Indigenous communities have gifted us with so much, we have stolen immeasurably more. For these reasons, the environmental movement in the US and around the world must always fight for the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The Indigenous Environmental Network builds the capacity of Indigenous communities and tribal governments to develop mechanisms to protect sacred sites, land, water, air, natural resources, the health of both people and all living things, and to build economically sustainable communities. Enweave has been off the grid for awhile, and it's because I’m working hard to transform the business model into an endeavor much better suited to meet this moment. Yes, we are reckoning with historic environmental issues, but more importantly we are reckoning with the injustices buried into our economic infrastructure, public health, and law enforcement.
When environmentalists push for change, we don’t often acknowledge that there are more immediate issues than climate change and sustainability. This will always be true, and the current political, social, and economic climate make that clearer than ever. Police brutality, racism, coronavirus, evictions, and economic conditions are pushing environmental problems to the back burner— and they absolutely should. How is it fair to expect anyone to be concerned about our planet when they are concerned about how to pay rent, save their business, keep their family healthy, be valued for their identity, or prove black lives matter?
Enweave will cultivate an economy that weaves environmental action into the ordinary so people can focus on the issues that touch their lives more deeply. Our “marketplace on a mission” is a first-of-its kind nonprofit that integrates environmentalism into the things you already do every day, like shopping, banking and running your business. By offering green products at prices equal to their conventional alternatives, rewarding customers for eco-friendly purchases, building up the next wave of responsible brands and creating competition that forces conventional brands to do better, Enweave will use its resources to help extinguish environmental injustices.
More details to come, and look out for our kickstarter campaign coming soon! In the meantime, face the issues you have to face, solve the problems you want to solve, and fight for the people you know you need to fight for.
