Louis works as Senior Executive in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division. Before being appointed as Chair of the Commission, Louis served as Commissioner for three years and was former president of the Hispanic Bar Association of D.C. We are very proud to celebrate Louis during Hispanic Heritage Month!

Today, we continue our series of highlighting ABA leaders, and next up is the Honorable Peter M. Reyes, Jr., who served as past Commissioner of the ABA Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities!
Judge Reyes is also the first Latinx judge to serve on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. From being a recipient of the prestigious ABA Spirit of Excellence award to recently being awarded the Hispanic National Bar Association Lifetime Achievement award, the Commission is very proud to celebrate Judge Reyes
This year, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the ABA Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights & Responsibilities is using our social media platforms to highlight ABA leaders who have exemplified true leadership and are shining examples of excellence in the Latinx Community!
To begin, we want to highlight Steve Zack! Mr. Zack is a Board Certified trial lawyer at Boies Schiller Flexner and a member of its Executive Committee. He was the first Hispanic American to serve as President of the American Bar Association. While in that role, Mr. Zack founded the ABA Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities. The Commission is proud to celebrate Mr. Zack!🎉

Celebrating Hispanic/Latino Heritage month September 15th marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, created in August 1988. The date was selected in recognition of the independence days shared by El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
We are excited to celebrate and look forward to sharing some great events with you soon!

She has toured across Canada, Europe, and was featured as an emerging artist at Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival, on her first U.S. tour.
Jordana has enjoyed widespread worldwide airplay of her earlier releases “Neither of Either”, “Standard Deviation”, and her critically praised latest release, “Zahava”, an all-vocal looping EP of original music.

Introducing: Ashley Álvarez, a dedicated government service leader and talented poet!
Ms. Álvarez, is a first-generation Cuban and Puerto Rican attorney and daughter of immigrants. She graduated from California Western School of Law and is currently Committee Director and Legislative Counsel for the City of Chicago Committee on Economic, Capital, and Technology Development. In her role, she established the first city council committee training program and procedural guide, and increased legislation introduction and passage by nearly 300%!
Earlier this year, Ms. Álvarez was appointed Chair of the Legislative Committee for HLAI - Serving the Hispanic Lawyers of Illinois. She also is a graduate fellow of the Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation, the founder of Oye Prima, and was recently awarded the "Negocios Now Latinos 40 Under 40."
We are so excited to have chosen Ms. Álvarez to perform her poetry piece at our Cinco de Musica event and we are ready to be inspired!

Mr. Perez is a Chilean attorney and LLM graduate of University of St. Thomas School of Law. He initially came to the United States solely to study but became inspired to stay after seeing the amazing community service being done in the Twin Cities. He currently works at Steven C. Thal, PA. and enjoys giving back to the immigrant community in Minnesota!
