So proud of our 10th cohort graduates..
Teaching them how master food presentation is a critical step in understanding catering!

08/02/2024

This is our 10th cohort's graduation!

We partnered with A Knock At Midnight who participated in the One Summer Chicago program

The goals of this program is to introduce students to cooking skills and reflection practices so that they can cook confidently on their own terms. Skill development lessons and choice-based recipes encourage personalized learning. Lessons include space for students to apply those skills to personal food histories and stories. These students are walking away from these lessons with practical kitchen skills, a curiosity-driven approach to food, and a deepened connection to the dishes and recipes that are meaningful to them and their family members.

You’ve got everything you need right now inside you. Can’t wait to see how high you soar!”

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

As a Feeding the Future graduate, I can assure you that this amazing workforce development and culinary arts training program has changed my life. I stand before you today as a product of the good faith and encouragement of professional staff members and my peers who have become my FTF family. I have been amazed at the love I have received and the knowledge that I have gained that far exceed the classroom. The opportunities that I have been given as a result of gaining food safety and workplace safety certificates from FTF are more than I could have ever imagined. After graduating from the program the career coaches were able to place me in a fulltime position at Chartwells Higher Ed as a Food Service Worker in 2022. Since being hired I have become a Cook I and now a Team Lead. I oversee 21 employees now!

“…Thank you to the teachers and staff, for this awesome experience and education. I never thought that I could be making the salary that I am making today to be able to support my family.

Today we made homemade Stir Fried Rice at Dirksen Middle School. The kids really enjoyed having the different vegetable and sauce options. We practiced more cutting techniques and focused on food and workplace safety.

Ran into another Feeding the Future Workforce Development program graduate! She's working at Caterpillars to Butterflies Learning Tree. So proud of her. In our training we discuss emotional intelligence which includes self management and self awareness. If you are self aware then you can therefore self manage your emotions! Our program works!

This week, during our 4th week of training in preparation for job interviewing, we took our students shopping! I would like to thank our partnering organization . The women their really took their time to dress the FTF participants and we all enjoyed ourselves watching the fashion show. They felt confident and professional. We teach our students that dressing for success doesn't just influence outsiders – it also affects you directly. When you dress like a winner, you'll feel like a winner and have the determination to move forward with confidence. Sharp clothes can work wonders for your own attitude.

UPDATE!!!! Our students stole the show at the career fair, and all were granted jobs, but just look how amazing they look. These suits are from Calvin Klein, J Crew, and Anne Klein. They did so great in their interviews, and we are soooo proud of them. They haven't even graduated from the program yet and have already obtained employment. That's our goal! THANKS AGAIN TO OUR PARTNERS POISED FOR SUCCESS, A KNOCK AT MIDNIGHT AND UCHICAGO DINING
