Some studies suggest that the lack of social ties can be as damaging to the human body as alcohol abuse or smoking. It can weaken your immune system, cause high blood pressure and accelerate cognitive decline. Everyone’s busy, but make time to see friends and loved ones and participate in social activities that interest you. If you suffer from loneliness, make changes and ask for help.

17 Poems About Alzheimer's Disease For Alzheimer’s Awareness Month 06/09/2023

"More than 6 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer's. An estimated 6.7 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's in 2023. Seventy-three percent are age 75 or older". (Alzheimer's Association)

Per the CDC, "the majority (80%) of people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias are receiving care in their homes. Each year, more than 16 million Americans provide more than 17 billion hours of unpaid care for family and friends with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias."

Many, if not the majority, of those living with Alzheimer's or caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's, often feel not understood and alone.

We came across this collection of poems and, reading them, were reminded of how poems have the healing power to capture and communicate a voice that otherwise may not be spoken or heard. In sharing this collection with you, we hope reading these poems will remind those feeling alone in their journey with Alzheimer's that they are not alone! And those who do not have Alzheimer's reading these poems will get an intimate insight into living with Alzheimer's.
